Unfortunately that's right. Our bank accounts are actually only the banks form of a ledger. Once the cash has been deposited. It is legally an unsecured loan to the bank and ownership transfers from us to the bank. This is why there is an FSCS guarantee for deposits of £85,000. However be careful as this guarantee is per banking licence not per bank. Lloyds own Bank of Scotland which in turn own Halifax. So if you had £85,000 in each of them you would only be covered for one lot of £85,000 and technically could loose £170,000 in a banking crash. Food for thought.
I had a similar problem paying a mortgage off. And again sending a payment to Atkinson's. They even did a companies house search on them. Mind blowing really. We are all sleep walking through the banking system. Use cash at every opportunity. If we don't it will be taken away and we'll end up a cash less society.

I would agree with most regular proof. There the others which have single year design or even a cult following like the 1989, which I can not see in my lifetime being worth only it's gold value or the same as regular sovereigns. I myself would buy what ever was cheapest. In this case the double.

As a pure investment for 20 years, whichever is the lowest premium usually wins.
But given there's little difference between the double versus 2 x singles, then I'd go for the double. To appreciate the design better. Apparently these are not being offered wholesale to dealers, so the mintage will be relatively low inho.
With all that being said, the proof, assuming you get a nice condition one, will surely be doing well in 20 years too.
It's down to are you a collector or stacker at heart?

I tell you what I dislike about most bullion dealers, its the headline price and then you click on the listing and see you have to buy so many to get anywhere near that rate.
The price should be the same for one or 100.  If I go the the petrol station, they don't charge me more for ten litres and less for 50 litres.

To begin with, supermarkets do not sell one fish finger and a discount for ten.
No, I do not dislike or have problem with ChardsCoinandBullionDealer. To be fair Chards are the cheapest most time, but that was not what I am saying.
I would prefer to see headline for one coin first, and then I can venture further to see extra discount for quantity.
You could lead the campaign and be the first bullion dealer to advertise the real price for a single sovereign. Silver, would not matter, as buying a single 1oz would be pointless when adding VAT and postage.

I'd say no as the prices are not used as a standard, even take Spink  where a sovereign is listed over bullion in many cases you will not get a premium from a dealer  or even a fellow collector unless its a numismatic rarity.  You need to remember theres 4 prices for everything.
1 what the seller would like to get  2 what the seller is likely to get in reality from a fellow collector/3rd party peer to peer etc 3, what a dealer will pay , 4 what the dealer will list the coin at retail.
1, £600 , 2 £450, 3, intrinsic or just over, 4 £750 this is just an arbitrary example.   Anyone can list a coin for any amount  ultimately the free market dictates the price.

I would not put too much faith into the Marsh price guide,
It is based on coins in a minimum of EF.  Even with EF coins I would recommend looking in the current year Spinks pre-decimal  standard catalogue for prices rather than Marsh, or better yet doing your own research.  Marsh is a great reference guide that is easy to navigate quickly and is a great starter guide, but for pricing I find it wildly inaccurate.

I've got the same guide and I ignore it, not because it's incorrect, but because I think there are better price guides. I personally use coin archive to search previous auction prices. I find it gives me a good starting position to know how much a coin is worth and then I can decide what I'm willing to pay.
Here's a link to a search for "1937 sovereign". Just change the search term to what you want.

I would hazard a guess that the X-ray tubes are actually made by third parties.  If you could find out what models of tubes they take and identify a second source for the tube, one of the Chinese ones might be worth getting.  This might take a little bit of digging.

When you watch then Australian gold mining  shows, in the outback, they seem to have the purest of gold in their nuggets.

I find its crazy that it's so pure.  I thought it would have more trace elements even in parts 1000's or 10,000's

@stefffana @dicker @Britannia47   @CoinStruckThe results........... I was genuinely expecting to find more contamination/more elements within the XRF test.   It's known that Western Australian gold is more pure in its un refined state than Northern American gold for example   The results are as follows......
    Result
    97.37 Au
    2.55 Ag
    0.08 Fe
This was run for a full cycle and no other trace elements were detected.
I've love to build a sovereign "DNA" database to see if there is a detectable difference between Perth sovereigns and Canadian mint sovereigns for example.
