    Tis ok, I've managed to shift most of it at cost....got about 40 ozs left now.
    I don't want to spoil Marc's thread, but I really wish I hadn't bothered with it. My advice is to start/stick with gold.
    Not a popular comment on a silver forum eh?

    Marker pen doesn’t hurt the capsule and it wipes straight off with a little alcohol on a tissue.

    I use tiny round stickers to do this, doesn't obscure the coin at all and no permanent mark should I want to remove. Then same principle write number on stickers which corresponding ledger

    I was going to suggest this. Could use a tiny sticker to do this too

    Ive got about 70 to 80 coins. All purchased from on here or a bullion dealer (from which i have receipts).
    Got to sit some time and tally up the metal to the paperwork and mark each accordingly. Will do it when my other half is working one weekend and i can have some peace and quiet lol.
    Already got zipper bags for the silver.
    Will get some of them there Quadrum cases for the gold.

    Buy small ziploc bags on eBay.  Label the bag and pop the coin in.  Store similar coins together in larger bags.  No sense in ruining a capsule.  Throw bags in old monster boxes.  Label box with a number, and update your inventory spreadsheet with the box number next to each item in the box.

    I now just write a number on the edge of the capsule with a fine marker pen and have a spreadsheet with who, when, how much etc…

    Quadrum cases are lovely for gold coins. My storage preference.  Uniform size and can have 1/20s to 1oz
    all displayed nice
    Also helps sorting and storage with the being square
    Try them from seller andy_jack on eBay or direct from their web site coingallery.co.uk
    Label them using a standard 99012 dymo label with dymo labelwriter 450 Duo. The width is perfect size for quadrum
    You can fit coin type, gold weight, date and price paid

    I don't mark or label the capsules of any of the coins I have.
    With regard to differentiating between examples of the same coin, what I do is put the example of the coin that I will keep in 'the collection' in a Quadrum capsule, and any duplicate/spare examples for 'the stack' in a normal simple round capsule.
    I mostly collect rather than stack, so I don't have all that many duplicates or spares at the moment, but that's how I do it.

    @Paul has/had a very simple but clever way of doing it. Using slabs with built-in labels. I will try and find the thread and put it in here.

    I'm not a financial advisor and even if I was I wouldn't be giving you financial advice on a forum. This is my personal approach to index investing...
    In case you're not aware of it: https://monevator.com/low-cost-index-trackers/ and https://monevator.com/passive-fund-of-funds-the-rivals/
    If you haven't worked out what sort of balance you want in your portfolio (or want to know more about constructing a portfolio generally), I recommend the book "Smarter Investing" by Tim Hale.
    I have a number of different funds in different vehicles depending on availability, etc. Generally what I'm trying to do is to:
    - choose an appropriate equity/bond split (say, 80/20 inside pensions/SIPPs and a little more conservative, maybe 70/30 in ISAs);
    - have the bond part split equally into index-linked gilts and short-term gilts (but in some cases can't really do that so have general short-term bonds);
    - have the equity part more-or-less be market-weighted global equities.
    I don't really care about ETFs vs OEICs. I pick funds by checking the options (for the type of fund) from the Monevator page and see which are available. (In some cases I might have to mess around a little more, eg having a UK fund and an ex-UK fund if there isn't a good option for all-world.)
    An easier option would be to pick a fund with an appropriate equity/bond mix from the range of Vanguard Lifestrategy (but these have something of a UK home bias last time I checked) or BlackRock Consensus funds. These might not be quite as "tuned" as you'd like for your own personal preferences but they make it a little harder to make serious mistakes.

    The problem is that most of us want the ability to buy things we need such as food, fuel, land, housing, dentistry, etc rather than just exchange it for other gold. It's the buying power in terms of the things we want to buy that determines its value to the holder.
    I don't see how a blockchain helps here. A blockchain gives you a decentralised ledger which means there can be an agreed concept of "ownership" that doesn't rely on trusting any given party (such as a bank) to keep the records of. But as soon as you want to tie that to a physical asset (such as gold) then you have to trust someone to hold onto that physical asset and, on demand, give it to the owner of the token along with the token being destroyed. But then you're back to trusting a party which is subject to the same risk of fraud/default, pressure from governments, etc that a bank or vault is.

    So I went, they were very friendly and explained everything.
    They quoted me:
    168£ for a quarter britannia
    425£ for a sovereign (didn’t ask dates sorry I’m newbie)
    1626£ for a Krugerrand
    812£ for 1kg silver bar (to order)

    Haven’t checks if prices are good or not yet. Plus they have convenient on site safeboxes for a decent price.
