I'd imagine most of us have Royal Mint regrets and yes, I've bought far more silver proof stuff then I ever planned too

IMHO I suspect so long as you are able to hold for a good few years the memorial sets will come good

I have a few bullion coins from the RM,old ones, in fancy envelopes …I think gold needs to go to Mars let alone the moon  before I’ll recoup the premium 
 

I’ve often seen mention of references to past mistakes and regrets and wondered if anyone would share their experiences?  I am still new to collecting and certainly messed up with buying from the RM and continue to do so😂
who knows it may be cathartic to share or not,  just wondered ? 
 

Slowing down or near on total stop on buying/collecting,When everything was so much cheaper.Then buying other s**** that's just made losses.
However,look at the royal mints pricing of some things now,I think you're going to see alot of people stop due to this.

I bought a gold tenth proof Brit from my birth year on eBay.  Came in original box with COA.  Very good price (same as bullion) so wasn't too bothered about whether it was a genuine proof or not.  When I received it, I noticed the cap hadn't been screwed together properly.  Thought I'd just unscrew it to realign it, but with the lightest touch the cap opened, the coin dropped out, bounced down my jeans and ended up on the floor.  Marvellous... 😄 
My biggest PM regret is probably buying brand new silver Proofs from the RM.  I always seem to be disappointed with them.  Nothing particularly 'wrong' with them, just don't feel like they're worth 5 times the intrinsic value when I get them in hand.
I did start buying PM's on BBP before I realised there were cheaper places for exactly the same item.  But I don't class that as a regret, was part of the learning curve. 🙂

My biggest regret is splitting my stack and adding a percentage of numesmatic.  I have since realised I am not savvy enough to spot what's going to be desirable and appreciate in price going forward or when the optimal time to move it on is.  If I could do it all again it would just all be bullion and all UK bullion at that, I also mixed it up with other mints just for a bit of interest and variation but if metals  ever do go to da moon the capital gains tax free will be vital.

Not buying enough memorial PF70 sovereigns 😉

That's the other way to look at it.
Buying when there's blood in the streets
Too much product and little demand
could be the shrewdest thing one could do
Not all horses 🐎 are winning horses but that one big odds winner 🏆 can hit a home run
I did that with taking the punt on the Una and lion 2oz gold 
£3995 for 2oz of gold I must have been made paying that premium
