SOTD just arrived. I've got to give TRM credit where credit is due because it has arrived in decent time and has no visible marks under initial close inspection (not that I'm too bothered about that considering what it is).

King's side is very good too. No hiding that Charles III is a 74 year-old man. Looks dignified with crown.
Really cannot wait for the Sovereign proofs later this year. Exciting times.

They've now just taken the payment! Unexpected and I had moved money out of that account, anticipating putting money back in next week.
    Very funny and annoying!!

We was always going to get something different for the Jubilee of our longest and likely last Jubilee of her reign……Fact and we all would be up set if they did nothing.

the Memorial was squeezed in there and already had been signed off in her reign.  (A truly stunning £5 in hand). And no way was I missing a new proof sovereign with a new monarch.

And…..now it’s the coronation and we have gone back to the George and the Dragon with a coronation obverse…….what’s not to like about that.

I think and hope it the sovereign cools off a bit and we go back to normal for a few years…….saying that I would like  shield back bullion sovereigns with die numbers

The sovereign is turning into the Brit, new design every year.    Historical sovereigns are special because they are one offs, the royal mint are churning out different designs and watering it down so much it will kill off collecting of the normal person

I get your thinking on the number of Memorial Sovs minted @refero  I also see the logic in many of the counter arguments.
I’ve only been stacking/collecting Sovs for a couple of years and thought I had started late missing all the key dates in the modern era which I’m slowly obtaining, I have a gut feeling I could be wrong though.
2022/2023 has been overwhelming with continuous one off designs with what should have just been a platinum jubilee collection.
For someone like me with a limited budget in the current climate, it’s been hell in managing finances to be able to afford all these, as I’m sure is the same with many of us if we were fortunate enough with TRM queue system or dealers/resellers etc.
Here’s the thing though, we have had a single Monarch for 70 years, unprecedented and it won’t be seen again for a few generations, if ever.
Since decimalisation we have had only a single Monarch and we are only now having a new Monarch printed/minted on our currency.
This is history in the making with specific designs for these events which I feel will only be in high demand in future years, possibly more so than the preceding key dates/designs.
Should there have been a memorial collection, it can be argued.  Should there have been so many minted?  imho for such an event did they make enough for all who would want/could afford one?
I’ve managed to obtain these to-date and hope to also purchase a 2023 Coronation year proof also, mind you that will be it, at least until the next Coronation…
It’s wonderful to own these as the current custodian but longer term, it’s a small piece of history to be passed on to the next generation/custodians.

That's easy!  It's because of the RM's elaborate and complex QC program.  Every single coin is individually inspected for hours before approval to send to collectors.

Sorry my question wasn’t directed at you - it was more rhetorical! 🙂
I’m still waiting for my British Monarchs Charles I coin and my reverse proof 1oz Britannia. I had forgotten about them.

Just finished a call with the RM.
The SOTD Sov is not expected to be delivered until end June / beginning of July, so they didn't want to hold customers money.
No reason orders shouldn't go through, despite the charge dropping off 'pending'.
Well, unless I don't have the cash available at that point!

Little update on this. I emailed them yesterday and got answer today saying this:
I can see that your order The Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III 2023 Celebration Sovereign Is still in place on your account  if
the money has re-appeared in your account please give us a call so we can retake the payment so you dont lose your order.
I call them this morning and I was told that the payment would be taken again when the coin becomes available. no further action needed.

    I've just noticed the same.
Order is in progress on the website, the payment went from pending to no longer being charged on my bank account.
    I've emailed them.

If you have the coin in "open orders" in your royal mint account, then nothing to worry about. It's normal for the payment to drop off again until closer to dispatch. When I say normal I mean normal for RM order's at least.

the Sotd will be a 1800-2000 gbp coin. If figures are accurate, out of 1260 minted, how many will be available on the market on regular basis?
    Mine not for sure.
I bet there are out there hundreds of collectors that will just keep their Sotd and will never ever sell.  And for the few ones available there will immediately be hundreds of collector willing to add it immediately to their collection
No room for regular traders imho
And i dont think the proof release will change that. Assuming the only difference being the plain edge, this Sotd will be always linked to the specific day of coronation, no matter how many generic 2023 proof will be around
