Well done. That didn’t take long! I now know more than I did. I knew the Ove Arup connection as it was my father in law’s. He indeed received it fir ten years service. He did over three decades more with them. Ove Arup now called Arup we’re responsible for making sure the architect’s dreams became a reality with the Sydney Opera House. They were also brought in to solve the Millennium “wobbly” bridge.
Back to the bar, I thought he said it was Tiffany but it was years ago that we spoke about it. Maybe there’s another one hidden somewhere!

I do prefer the glint of “pure” gold. CGT could be an issue with Kruger although I hope to just pass the majority of my coins on to my kids. Everyone needs a Krug in their stack though!

You’ve come to the right place! I took too long to find this community!

New member here!
Really looking forward to this collection.
I've just got into stacking (and collecting I suppose!) due to the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, and basically because I don't think she has much longer left sadly, and I think coins minted now will potentially have some premium in the future. And so a collection of Monarchs would be quite nice.
Welcome. I have only been here a few months and love it. I have bought quite a bit of silver and gold at great prices. I wish I'd found the silver forum sooner! Luckily most of my original silver was bought pre brexit so I did not pay VAT.

Obviously difficult to say for sure but I would (have!) put my money on silver to go up in value. I'm happy to sit on my little stack and keep adding to it as and when funds allow!

There's a few decent looking coins in there, it may be worth dividing your coins of this type into two piles; 'definitely scrap' and 'showing decent detail'. It can give you two different price points to sell at come the time. It may only equate to a few percent difference against the spot price but if you've accumulated tons of it by then you could do well on the private market
Don't forget you often won't get spot price or even close to it selling low purity silver to a dealer as they factor in their overheads and a bunch of other stuff when paying out.
Check out Numista or any similar site (Numista' s database is great), the guide prices tend to be quite out of date but the info on mintages, rarities etc is a boon.
Thanks. I'll sort them out tommorrow. Some are very worn but some are pretty good.

In the same vein, check your Halfcrowns to see if you have any 1925 or 1930 coins. These are also scarce. 1924 and 1926 are also probably worth more than spot to a coin collector.
In summary:
1924, 1925, 1926 and 1932 for Florins
1924, 1925, 1926 and 1930 for Halfcrowns
Shillings - not so much. 1924 and 1925 again are scarcer than other years but not so much of a premium on these compared to the Florins and Halfcrowns.
Nice haul, regardless!
Great. I'll have a look!
I assume I should leave them as they are rather than try and clean them?

Very good strategy 😁
Although also try and grab some low premium but fast sellers for your exit strategy ( sovereigns and other CTG free coins)
Example....say you have an emergency ( touch wood) and you need a quick few hundred £ fiat
Seller a) has a sovereign or other applicable gold or low premium silver coin /bar for sale
Seller b) has £330 scrap silver
Both items will sell but which sells quickest to the largest audience??
Scrap silver has its place and many people collect it but ,just try and cover as many eventualities as possible 😁
Thanks for the advice. I started with some Britannia’s from the mint. I then discovered I could buy them from Europe VAT free. Since then I discovered The Silver Forum. I’ve mainly bought from here since then.

Likely scrap ( pretty sure seller will have scoured for rare/key dates etc) but in saying that if you had the patience to break down into smaller groups then you will achieve a small premium.
Thanks. I bought just to add to my silver stack. I’m mainly after below spot, spot and close to spot silver (and gold). I’m convinced that FIAT currency is going to plummet in value at some point soon. I feel happier having some “real” money. As I’m still new to all this my thinking is as long as I stay close to spot I won’t make any expensive mistakes.

Hi all,
I just got hold of these coins at a good price. (Less than spot for the pure silver content). I bought as scrap but anyone more knowledgeable than me see anything of value here? I can turn them all over to photograph the other side but won’t bother if you tell me it’s all scrap!
Thanks,
Paul

That's why I think it would be interesting as somebody as BYB would make a video about this app and compare it with other test methods.
He can also test fake or more difficult stuff.
Just twigged who BYB is! I agree. @BackyardBullion Have you heard of the app we talking about? Good video idea.

I've tried it on a few coins and it does seem to be fairly accurate. If you measure and weigh a coin and that is correct then it passes this app's test as well think you can be faily confident the coin is the real deal. I tried a different coin to the one I selected in the app and it failed the test. Someone with more coins could test two similar size and weight coins and see if it is accurate enough to tell which is which. I can't justify £1000 on a Sigma at the moment so am hoping someone more experienced than me can give it the thumbs up!

This tread should be posted under general precious metals...
Sorry. Can I move it somehow? Still quite new to the forum. I should read the whole sentence! I only got as far as "If its not gold, silver or platinum but precious, i.e. palladium, rhodium etc." I then thought well it's not about those metals specifically. I'll just stick it in Silver! I missed this bit, "or if it's a topic about multiple precious metals at the same time. discuss here. "

I've just downloaded and used this app on a few coins and it seems to work! It makes sense that coins will have a very specific ring to them. Any one with more experience than me (every on here I should imagine!) used it and have any comments positive or negative about it? Should I be trusting it?
