  1. Sorry to hear this. Royal Mail used to be close to 100% reliable. Sign of the times. The UK is not what it used to be.
  2. It does. It used to live on their mantle piece. It was much shinier when it was left out. Presumably because my mother in law used to polish it!
  3. Well done. That didn’t take long! I now know more than I did. I knew the Ove Arup connection as it was my father in law’s. He indeed received it fir ten years service. He did over three decades more with them. Ove Arup now called Arup we’re responsible for making sure the architect’s dreams became a reality with the Sydney Opera House. They were also brought in to solve the Millennium “wobbly” bridge. Back to the bar, I thought he said it was Tiffany but it was years ago that we spoke about it. Maybe there’s another one hidden somewhere!
  4. Thought you might find this interesting. I have no idea if you will know what this is or not. I know but will wait to see if it’s a known bar in the silver stacker universe. It’s not for sale by the way!

    The Krugerrand

I do prefer the glint of “pure” gold. CGT could be an issue with Kruger although I hope to just pass the majority of my coins on to my kids. Everyone needs a Krug in their stack though!
  6. You’ve come to the right place! I took too long to find this community!
  7. Welcome. I have only been here a few months and love it. I have bought quite a bit of silver and gold at great prices. I wish I'd found the silver forum sooner! Luckily most of my original silver was bought pre brexit so I did not pay VAT.
  8. Obviously difficult to say for sure but I would (have!) put my money on silver to go up in value. I'm happy to sit on my little stack and keep adding to it as and when funds allow!
  9. Thanks. I'll sort them out tommorrow. Some are very worn but some are pretty good. Great. I'll have a look! I assume I should leave them as they are rather than try and clean them?
  10. Thanks for the advice. I started with some Britannia’s from the mint. I then discovered I could buy them from Europe VAT free. Since then I discovered The Silver Forum. I’ve mainly bought from here since then.
  11. Thanks. I bought just to add to my silver stack. I’m mainly after below spot, spot and close to spot silver (and gold). I’m convinced that FIAT currency is going to plummet in value at some point soon. I feel happier having some “real” money. As I’m still new to all this my thinking is as long as I stay close to spot I won’t make any expensive mistakes.
  12. Hi all, I just got hold of these coins at a good price. (Less than spot for the pure silver content). I bought as scrap but anyone more knowledgeable than me see anything of value here? I can turn them all over to photograph the other side but won’t bother if you tell me it’s all scrap! Thanks, Paul
  13. Just twigged who BYB is! I agree. @BackyardBullion Have you heard of the app we talking about? Good video idea.
  14. I've tried it on a few coins and it does seem to be fairly accurate. If you measure and weigh a coin and that is correct then it passes this app's test as well think you can be faily confident the coin is the real deal. I tried a different coin to the one I selected in the app and it failed the test. Someone with more coins could test two similar size and weight coins and see if it is accurate enough to tell which is which. I can't justify £1000 on a Sigma at the moment so am hoping someone more experienced than me can give it the thumbs up!
  15. Sorry. Can I move it somehow? Still quite new to the forum. I should read the whole sentence! I only got as far as "If its not gold, silver or platinum but precious, i.e. palladium, rhodium etc." I then thought well it's not about those metals specifically. I'll just stick it in Silver! I missed this bit, "or if it's a topic about multiple precious metals at the same time. discuss here. "
