  1. One big problem what many people always forget is that silver is an industrial commodity. Don't think you can really change the market with buying together a lot of silver coins/ bars, all the silver squeezes till now shown the result, a price that is now lower than months ago ... Because it is an industrial commodity, from the moment the price will go sky high, they find something else to replace it with, they did it before with so many other commodities who became to expensive. That's the real reason why gold is less manipulated as silver, you don't have the enormous industrial influence in it. And to end, I buy every month around a kg of silver, so I did my part.
  2. Every problem, how small it is, I would mention. If you sell an individual coin you must really go deep in the description and mention it as good as possible. If you sell a lot, let's say 20 coins you don't have to go in every coin individual but just mention the general problems. Like: selling 20 coins, some with milkspotting and a few has scratches. And always mention that the buyer may ask extra info/ photo's if wanted.
  3. If you only have 45oz at the moment, don't start with semi's yet and certainly not wit numismatic coins, just my 2 cents. Maybe you can better buy a few kg's of 90% silver coins. ( junk silver/ constitutional silver ) Every order I place is in general 7O% regular BU coins like Krugs, 20-25% semi's like the Panda's, the Somalian Elephant, .. and 5 till 10% with higher premium coins like the Marvel series, Star Wars, ... But my stack is growing since 2013 so my regular BU compartment is big enough to have some higher premium stuff.
  4. Indeed no coins but rounds but they look great. What's on the backside of the rounds, is a minth mentioned ?
  5. I think on your question: "Forget what prices dealers sell for as a private seller is not always likely to get the same." My opinion is that Pete means that a private seller will/ should always ask less than a dealer. What is normal if you ask me. ( @Pete, if I am wrong, please excuse me ) About your other question. If you sell coins with problems ( milkspots, scratches, ... ) you should always mention it clear in the description. When a potential buyer than asks for more info you can show him a photo. If the buyer knows enough because of the description, you were correct and did it right. Your reputation will be everything when you start dealing pm's, so always be correct or this adventure will not last long. Good luck !
  6. They can do it, but most don't do it, just look at the numbers of some big recyclers.
  7. Welcome on this great forum ! Please keep us informed about your trading story. I'm also planning to sell some in the future so I am interested in it.
  8. Welcome on this great forum, it will be a place were you will learn a lot more about collecting and stacking ! A good advise, don't buy to much special items in the beginning, go for the normal coins and try to buy the cheapest. I do not know the UK market but general good buys are the Krugerands, Kangaroo's, the Britt's and the Maple Leaf coins for beginning your stack.
  9. After seeing all this beauty, the Kookaburra is in my opinion the most beautiful coin/ collection in the world, I start my day with a big smile. A big THANK YOU to all the contributors of this topic ! 🙂
  10. This is really a perfect shot of a beautiful coin, respect ! My girlfriend does photography as a hobby, she has almost 10K followers on instagram but after seeing this photo, I think she can start with a new topic of making photo's. This is really an inspiration !
  11. In the EU it was the opposite, here gold went up because the euro is getting weaker against the dollar week after week ...
  12. Gold recycling is indeed a big junk and only a little of the used % is getting lost so the impact will get bigger with each year, soon to be more than what they get out of the ground. Silver is not the same, silver recycling is very little and most is still getting wasted. I think the price of silver must go way higher before recycled silver will reach high numbers like with gold and it will take many, many years before it will be more than what they still get out of mother earth.
  13. I read this topic and was intrigued by it. My question is: " Did anybody ever questioned official why there is vat on a legal coin ? And why the dealers in the UK don't join and go to court against this ?"
  14. True, the game is, when I hear what the LCS person tells me is to rotate as quickly as possible even when they think the price go up because the margins are not so big. 90%/ junk silver: he buys it 5% under spott price and sells it between 7,5 ( for customers he knows good ) and 10% over spott price. So a margin ( before costs, taxes and his income ) of around 12,5-15% when the price stays the same. The melter will off course pay less so the price must already go higher before he can break even in that scenario. But in a fluctuating market, speed is essential. It is a special kind of business and you have to know the market good to make good money. ( but when I see his house and his cars I'm sure he knows what he is doing 😊 )
  15. I know from my LCS that they buy indeed more, not from wholesalers but from private parties, when the prices go up but they also sell more because people like to jump on a train when they see a price go up. But they buy more than they sell, so what do they do with the difference ? They keep off course some as stock but much goes direct to be melted so they got the money back when the price is still high. He told me that how higher the price how better the quality must be to keep, everything with some damage or what looks difficult to sell goes to the melting pot while when the prices are low people care less and are happy they can buy at a low price.
  16. Nope, or wait for a kg of gold I will take it back 😇
  17. Ok, you convinced be, or not, because I have a feeling that something else is also from Silver and that doesn't seems so nice for my good old friend downstairs ... But the piece you have shown is just beautiful !! Is it a pice of art or a round or coin ?
  18. 101% the price of gold will go down again, just look at the gold price for the last 10-20-30-40-50-... years. But, I also believe that after every dip the price will go higher than before again. But it takes time. One of the reasons gold price is getting a lot more expensive in the EU is the collapse of the Euro against the US dollar of the last months/ days. I don't know if the dollar/ English pound ratio has changed a lot the last days/ weeks ?
  19. Proofs are because of the high premium a different case in my opinion. Hope that the quality will be perfect and you'll enjoy it a lot !
  20. I do the same, maybe I will buy a French 20FF a month but not more and some junk silver if the local LCS has some.
  21. 200% a big BIG big NO ! I rather have 2 fake silver coins than a wife with 2 fake boobs ...
  22. True, there is no end at the list of fake things ... It's just terrible ...
  23. Welcome on this great forum, it will be a place were you will learn a lot more about collecting and stacking ! I see you are from the US, best silver to stack in your case is constitutional or junk silver ( 90% ) silver. If you don't buy special dates or specials in general you will buy them at the lowest price. 10 oz bars are also a good option in the US, just look for an online bullion dealer ( like SD Bullion to menion one or apmex ) with the lowest price and shipping cost. Good luck !
