  1. Sorry if this was already posted but I stumbled across this just now and it shows the design for the 2023 sovereign, don't know if source is reliable though. https://britanniacoincompany.com/collections/2023-sovereign/ Scrap that, think that's just rumoured design. Sorry
  2. Definitely, but this could be a tool soon enough as there will be uproar in the next few months to years, this to make the masses settle down and then this will be a reality. I'm just thinking about recent energy prices uproar, this has quiet down a little bit even though prices are still higher than last year and profits/tax are still higher than ever. Its a quick slight of hand tactic I see. That's my opinion though
  3. There has been talks about 10% reduction but I believe whatever the reduction they will counter it the year after anyways so long term we will be paying more. ie Reduction to 15% but then year later VAT will be 22.5% and stay there. Just like it was reduced before to 15% but then now at 20%. Previously Im sure it was constant at 17.5%?(I wasn't old enough to care so didn't take note of that. Correct me if Im wrong.)
  4. Due to cost of living crisis the government have been considering it I believe, https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/uks-liz-truss-considers-5-cut-vat-if-she-becomes-pm-telegraph-2022-08-27/ there has been other articles. Might be a no go at the moment though but thought if this will be in the plans for the future and somewhere I did read the current chancellor is considering it. It was in the same article where it mentioned he just got rid of the cap to bankers bonuses. Be interesting to know what previously happened with PM when this happened. I assume the VAT reduction would be on certain items to help cost of living and not PM?
  5. Hi All, As there is chatter about VAT being reduced have you stopped buying silver/platinum? If VAT is reduced what will happen to silver/platinum? Would if be a simple reduction of VAT or do you see premiums increasing? Previous years when VAT was reduced for a year what happened with PM? did they increase/decrease in value? I assume its not as simple as one would think it would be? Thanks Slam
  6. This was under consideration, hence the question. Now just waiting on the double sovereign to come back into stock so I can get free del with the book 😎. 😁
  7. Hi All, Hope you are all well. Does anyone know if the Gold Sovereign Book gets released yearly or every X amount of years please? Talking about the The Gold Sovereign (2021 edn.) by Michael A. Marsh book . I think this was released in April 2021 and so it would mean they don't do one every year, but every few years I assume? Would probably wait to purchase the 2022 edition or 2023 if they will sell/ new production within a few months. (Assuming they do it in April 2023?) So wondering what is the print run on these? Thanks Slam
  8. Mine hasn't either and not too bothered, haven't heard nothing about the boxes so I can wait, not in a rush to give them my money just yet, haha. Especially with the increase of price for both metals.
  9. Thanks, actually this was the only antiques shop I had on my radar, I just turned up and was rushed because of parking was limited to 1 hour. Met Jeff and his wife and was very welcomed. Great little shop they have, I was taken aback by all the information and he was a store of knowledge, especially numismatic sovereign coins. We were talking so much that I forgot to ask to look at the sovereigns he had in the window display, lol. The 1 oz bullion silver were competitively priced for singles. Will be sure to visit again on my next visit and be armed with knowledge of prices for crowns, one dollar coins and sovereigns. Also the chippy next door does some nice fresh fish and chips. Managed to get some 2 more 50p jubilee coins at the post office too 🤣, thanks to a lovely elderly gentleman who had a massive smile after searching for them in the change. Great little afternoon out at the mumbles 😀, highly recommended.
  10. Hi All, Hope you're well. Any coin shops or local antique shops or other places to visit in Swansea please? Staying near the Mumbles beach. Thanks
  11. Definitely cute, i noticed 1oz silver proof prices gone up but mintage gone down by 1000. Assume that is normal practice?
  12. Forget the coin, where's the boxes 🤣. I made a deal with myself after the 2nd coin in series. If they are not supplying the boxes on the 3rd coin I'm cancelling the subscription. 😬
  13. yeah im thinking the same at the moment but it is nice to be able to have time to think about the purchase rather than rush into it, do you know if the 5 sov will be available in bullion?
  14. Anyone else happy to be able to have time to think about the purchase today? I was late and only got in on the site at 9.22 and I am pleasurely surprised they are still available. Now though I am eemming and arrrring about making the purchase, 🤣.
  15. Morning, do you have a link please? Can't see them being available? Looking for the 5 sov BU. Thanks
  16. Damn so I take it the 1/4 gold proof standard price is now £700 moving forward for all coins now?
  17. I believe only the individual can determine the value so if you are looking for an answer of what is best value only you can decide that, everyones circumstances are different. For example using my example in my previous post, for me out of silver, gold and food (loaf of bread, milk and ham), food for me is most and best value as its the cheapest but also is needed to survive. With gold and silver its not so needed as they are just metals at the end of the day. In terms of talking about value for fiat then using the pie logic then i would argue gold you getting more value because less 3rd parties and % are taking the piece of the pie. With all that being said and done, don't listen to me or anyone else, determine your value, determine your price, pay the price you like and enjoy your purchases just like any commodity in life. Best wishes
  18. I'm gonna try to answer this as a new stacker and supposedly a rising star, 🤣. However not saying its 100% correct its just my opinion. Take for example 1 oz of silver coin, its true value is and always will be 1 oz of silver. Fiat currency is used as a tool to gather silver, so using less fiat to gain more silver oz's is the best way to go. VAT doesn't add value to the silver content so that's why i think a lot of people are put off by it, a 3rd party is taking a bit of your pie lets say just because they make up the rules for the majority. For me I look at the final price I can buy at, that includes the physical silver, premiums, tax and shipping costs (All tools used by 3rd party to add their own value to the physical silver). Also 20% VAT is a sizeable chunk of the pie, that is a loaf of bread, 4 pints of milk and a packet of Ham to feed the family for a few days (2022). I can now see why its a deal breaker for many. Maybe a more experience stacker / collector can confirm if my thinking is correct?

    Best silver memes

Hi all, Not really a silver meme but relating to taxes, I thought I'll share as just seen it and made me wonder and cry inside. "The Tax Poem Tax his land, Tax his bed, Tax the table at which he's fed. Tax his tractor, Tax his mule, Teach him taxes are the rule. Tax his work, Tax his pay, He works for peanuts anyway! Tax his cow, Tax his goat, Tax his pants, Tax his coat. Tax his ties, Tax his shirt, Tax his work, Tax his dirt. Tax his tobacco, Tax his drink, Tax him if he tries to think. Tax his cigars, Tax his beers, If he cries tax his tears. Tax his car, Tax his gas, Find other ways to tax his ass. Tax all he has, Then let him know, That you won't be done till he has no dough. When he screams and hollers, Then tax him some more, Tax him till he's good and sore. Then tax his coffin, Tax his grave, Tax the sod in which he's laid. Put these words Upon his tomb, 'Taxes drove me to my doom...' When he's gone, Do not relax, Its time to apply the inheritance tax". 😭
  20. The 2oz British Monarch series also available to order: Shipping late June though 🤔 https://www.royalmint.com/our-coins/events/british-monarchs/henry-vii/henry-vii-2oz-silver-proof-coin/ https://www.royalmint.com/our-coins/events/british-monarchs/king-james-i/british-monarchs-king-james-i-2022-2oz-silver-proof-coin/
  21. Hi All, Apologies not really a deal but didn't think it's worth a new post so posting it here to help anyone that is still looking for one, just seen the 2oz silver jubilee coins now available at RM. https://www.royalmint.com/our-coins/events/the-queens-platinum-jubilee/the-platinum-jubilee-2oz-silver-proof-coin/
  22. Yeah just ask for the new 50p coins, was by chance that I remembered. I just said do you have any new 50p coins, lady knew and asked me if I meant the platinum jubilee ones. After catching the bug, I went into another larger post office thinking it be easy to get but then waited in the queue and when got to the counter the lady there said they don't and wont get anymore in because it was a limited edition, (Not quite sure on that information.) So think its pot luck. Best wishes
  23. Hi All, Not silver or gold but was out and about in the sunny weather today and stumbled across these at the post office, I haven't seen a 50p in real life for like 2 or 3 years so the size shocked me a little. Grabbed a few
  24. Sorry to hear and see that you had problems with your coins multiple times. On your coins did you also have lots of missing frosting/black bits around the rim's? Although I am not experience collector, my rule of thumb now is that, keep the coins for few days, up to a week, if I dont enjoy the coins and it bugs me too much, then try for exchange or refund. (Thats the plan anyways.) The ding next to 2021 does it show with the naked eye? If so then I think be too much to bother me I think, although it is on the back of the coin so might not bother me too much. Thanks
  25. Anyone received 5oz coins recently? Stunning set of 5oz coins received today but shame about the quality. 😭 Missing frosting around Rims and dings on the QA, missing frosting and black bits on rim of Portrait but portrait herself looks stunning though. Still looks stunning as a set. In 2 minds to keep or try for exchange.
