If a government in the future decided the only form of convertible currency was a CBDC then to be frank you have no choice but to use it. The government can track how I am being paid now to what I spend my cash on - all which will change is instead of a bank algorithm telling you what you can and can't spend (accessible by the Government) is one replaced by (possibly) by the BoE or HMRC. And if routed through a bank what would railing against the dying of the light do? The Algorithm would (theoretically) watch what you spendr and how you spend it. As for the Orwell references. Yes I know the book and if you are really scared by what it pertains don't ever ever buy a smartphone. Of any description.

Sort of bemused by the CBDC talk on here and "the government can watch where I spend my money". Well if you use debit and credit cards now they can trace your money at a drop of a hat. It is effectively digital money. Unless your entire existence is based on being paid in cash and not having a bank account your financial history can be traced. I have just discovered Wise. Am finding it quote useful for buying products overseas. I don't have a credit card because of...history..so am not protected that - but so far the banks I use have honoured my purchases (mind they are relatively small amounts in the round).

Being a not so closet crank I have purchased the piedfort because it is a choo choo and reading between the lines the NRM may be getting a small fee for the image. Despite the fact it is the LNER and us Western Boys who are exiled in the land of Malachite Green are hoping the mint try the City of Truro next. Or at least a King/Castle with a Pannier tank to finish. None of that Midland pish.

Yeah I know they are hammered and therefore ripples isn't strictly accurate but the joke doesn't work otherwise.

My 5oz and my cheeky 3oz arrived today. And again they are lovely pieces of hand poured silver with enough ripples to make a chocolate bar. So formal thanks to BYB and all others connected in making these happen. 👍

Just to add my tuppence worth to this (groan) - I have ordered the 1oz Silver proof which will probably have a mintage of zillions. But I am not buying it to flog it - just to collect it. Oh yeah - when I logged on the queue was 61k.

Arthur looks like a medieval monarch. Needs more woad. He is also mentioned in an epic Welsh poem called the Gododdin - where the author takes a swipe at a current king and basically says "he is no Arthur" if my memory serves.

The Silver one is lovely. Not sure about the gold at all.

The Royal Mint are certainly cute in their pricing. As the spot price falls the premium on proof coins rises. Trebles all round!

Arrived this morning. What a splendid bar, lovely texture and a nice chunky piece of silver. I didn't realise that Silver stacking meant Backyard Bullion Stacking when I started this collecting lark....😁. Thanks as ever to @BackyardBullionand @ChrisSilver and all others (including presumably Mrs BYB) for organising and producing these series of bars and rounds.

Flying Scotsman maybe an interesting one from my personal pov. I would like to see a few engine ones: Rocket, City of Truro, the Scotsman, Evening Star would be ideas for a decent design. Not sure if diesels would count though... Mind I was going to chunter that the RM are churning out coins like I visit the bog after a hefty biryani and can someone tell them that in the words of that hoary mantra - less is sometimes more.
