My first purchases were 25 x 1oz Silver Kangaroos and 25 x 1oz Maples from goldsilver.be, and 3 x Sovereigns from Harrington & Byrne

My first silver purchase was a bit over 2 years ago from BBP, paid £30.36/oz while the going rate at TSF was around £26.8.

55.7% was the premium over spot for this sinner

I was ignorant (of TSF's existence), scared (of fakes) and believed that VAT is as inevitable as death.

Now I've seen the Light - TSF has shown me the error of my ways.

My first purchases was kilo bars of silver from bullionbypost.co.uk, I wasn't happy with their store prices, noooo.. I paid their ebay fee's too!

My first gold purchase was also from BBP, but nowhere near as regrettable. Paid £898/oz while the TSF rate might have been around £865 extrapolating from posts around those dates.

Had I known of TSF back then, would I have trusted a stranger sending me shiny?🤨

Probably not, since at that stage I'd have no way to verify the goods and paranoia prudence would have had the last word, perhaps the fist word as well.

Videos at the time showed dripping acids and other such destructive shenanigans.

Ownership of Sigma Pro mini (Holy Grail?😇) finally allowed me to become more 'adventurous' and consider exploring alternative sources. In fact I had nightmares that coins from BBP or even the Royal Mint were off, as some were visibly thinner and/or wider than others (all turned out to be legit, I just didn't know 2013 brits had different spec, I had no FAITH🫣)

My first purchase of gold coinage in July of last year (I'm still a newbie!) were sovereigns from The Pure Gold Company (as with many, trust was an issue at first). That said, £918 for 1854 & 1865 shieldbacks wasn't too bad.

First gold bar was a 10g from The Royal Mint shortly afterwards.

My first silver coinage was last August, a 10oz from the Royal Mint, & twelve Brits from BBP.

My first silver bars was a 500g from Ebay, and several 100g from Facebook! These were the right price though.

I've come a long way in a short time, both in terms of wealth of knowledge, & wealth of err, wealth.

These days I pretty much exclusively buy from this forum. Gotta make my subscription pay for itself somehow!

I did pretty well in the beginning as I just bought standard bullion over the counter in Germany with leftover expenses at the end of a work trip. This was around 2005 and was the start. Unfortunately this led to a tradition type of event where every city I visit I have to buy something to bring home with me. I would go as far as saying that every coin shop I visited (as a tourist) I would have massively overpaid, the problem is that I still do it now do it out of tradition, the last time I paid an average of £7 more for a Morgan and trade dollar than anywhere on the net. If it wasn't for the fact I get left alone for a few hours I probably wouldn't do it. 

All my silver purchases are done through eBay, gold at Fayers, lcs and occasionally online. I have bought and sold a couple of bits on the forum but mainly like pre 1920s

I did buy a couple of gold coins from BBP a little while back because I couldn’t get them anywhere else. I felt dirty and it’s really hard coming to terms with it.

First Sovs in the early 2000’s. From a shop in Hatton Garden.

First silver in around 2008 (1kg CS bar from Chards)

If I’m travelling and there is a dealer somewhere I route via the dealer.  This particularly good in the West of the US.

Hi, I'm Stefan.

My first silver object was a shiny teaspoon. I have bought it from Colchester, five years ago, from a charity shop. The hallmarks made me very curious and I have started reading about them.

Since then, I never stopped buying functional silver objects, extending my knowledge and feeding my appetite. Now, I have in my stack many kilos of good quality silver flatware, many kilos of circulated silver coins, few kilos of high premium fine silver and many pieces of carat gold jewellery. About gold coins, not as many I would like to have, but I will try to improve.

I have discovered three years ago TSF and I am addicted.

Think i may be in the red generally. Im a bit messy with it all. The metal is hidden away and as safe as it can be. But the paperwork is another story. All spread in drawers throughout the house and no idea what ive actually spent all told. Need to get what i have in order. Should be able to stick the prices i paid for individual items on about 90%of it so not all is lost.Need to pull my finger out and get that all in order.

Got a lot on at the moment so am most probably done for this year, buying gold. But will give me time to learn the art of buying with the view to actually maybe getting my money back from it or dare i say, make a few bob.

Like all junkies I spread my disease to friends and family. No more drugs and alcohol as birthday gifts, you sir are getting bullion. Now go home, get an early night, get up and get your lazy arse to work to earn more money so you can buy your own shiny. The ladies checked out when we stopped buying them jewellery and started buying ourselves coins instead, but hey, when you can build your own Lego fortress and have a sword fight with silver bars, who needs women, right? Right??

I wish I knew how. I have one on my laptop (Apple Numbers), no idea how to set the thing up though!
