No Date Sovereign. First I’ve seen

I’m by no means an expert on Sovereigns, as many of you on here are. However a local auction house is advertising this and these are the pictures they’ve put. Now I haven’t been to see it in person yet, but does this make sense? I’ve never seen a no date sovereign 🤔. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Likely to show the type of coin but not exact coin in picture, hence no date, ( you can see its been blurred out.

I like to buy the pre-dip dip

It's a personalised sovereign. You can have it engraved with the quote of your choice like 'Happy Birthday' or have your name stuck on it so no one can nick it.

I have seen this image before.  I think from a U.K. bullion dealer who was essentially using it as a placeholder.

Why do I think that?  Well it’s because I was surprised that a bullion dealer would use a polished coin as an example!

Not my circus, not my monkeys

I think it's common practice to blur dates out if they're selling mixed year sovereigns (as bullion). Some will overwrite dates with the text "random/mixed year" etc others just don't bother.

If we do the right thing this time, we might have to do the right thing again next time.

So I went to the auction today and it was just them being lazy, and not wanting to take photos of every coin. Here’s me thinking I came across some scarce, error coin lol 😂. It’s all good fun and thanks for all the advice and tips as always 🙏
