eBay buyer/seller goldensilvercoins rant

Abyss

Recommended Posts

Apologies if this comes across as rant and rave but this seller/buyer on eBay is taking the f**!!! piss.....

Initially the buyer had an issue with the following item and it was settled

image.thumb.png.b7b50585cbb1aa174f4bd4a1dbde7db2.png

And now they seller/buyer left negative feedback on my eBay account stating on another sale

image.thumb.png.7f1b2b12c4978bb7c245fbef4a3ca183.png

I have filed report with eBay but these coins purchased from European Mint bullion coins may well have minor scratches..... Not being sold as you will get a PF70 grade on them.

Maybe I could understand If I was dealing with Joe public (and I have had someone return a Queens Beast coin because unhappy with some milk spotting happening on the edge of the coin which I was happy to do at my expense) expected perfection under microscope but the

goldensilvercoins eBay selling page exclusively deal with bullion coins that have undergone gold gliding. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/*goldensilvercoins*/m.html?_trksid=p3692

Surely someone that has a business setup on eBay selling silver at four and half times over the spot price should know better. That's my rant over and I feel better for it. Apologies if I have offended anyone on the forum.

You can send the buyer a feedback revision request, that will give them the option to rectify their mistake.

Or you could buy one of their coins and leave feedback....

@Abyss having bought from you previously, I could not be happier with your description, delivery comms, friendliness and followup with BYB on the number of one of the items you sold to me.

eBay is a pain at times as I have mentioned in previous post, particularly when people are rude 'straight off the bat'.

On the upside - There are obviously some really good sellers and there is a guy who I have been buying from for 18 months and he is great and when there was a problem he rectified and was really professional.

However, as I have said before this forum is by a very long way my favourite place to buy if I am not looking for a specific item only available from a dealer.

This is the reason I only sell on ebay as a last resort.

I had no choice but to sell on eBay due to amount of Silver I wanted to sell (2,000 oz). When the lock down went into effect the premiums on silver had risen and I had long discussion with my wife and we both mutually agreed that I cannot complete both my Gold and Silver stack with future job uncertainty (I now put onto Furlough scheme until end October and I have a gut feeling my employer will try to make me redundant when go back to work in November).

My stacking goal 2,500 oz Silver majority in Queens Beast coins (2 oz and 10 oz) and 100 oz Gold in Queens Beast coins (bullion 1 oz Gold 10 of each release). We decided to sell majority of the Silver and generic 1 oz Gold and keep and continue to finish the Gold 1 oz QB stack when Gold prices became more attractive.

Without eBay no way I could achieved my goals of selling majority of my Silver stack and so many individuals came over from eBay to The Silver Forum and bought from me here as well and then stayed and continue to buy from other sellers on the forum as well. 99% buyers on eBay were genuine buyers and if anyone asked for cheaper prices I directed them to my sales thread on The Silver Forum.

Thanks @dicker the forum is the best place to buy and sell without a doubt but if you are trying to liquidate a large stack with the limited number of eyeballs on The Silver Forum you will need to reach a wider audience hence decision to utilise my eBay account and join various PM related Facebook groups.

I think goldensilvercoins afraid bit of competition wanted to discredit me as a seller not knowing I had a limited stock and when I had sold my stack that was me finished and done but I have been a member on eBay since since: 19 Oct, 2009 majority of the time as a buyer.

I always believe no matter where you work/live/socialise with always be a small minority of individuals need to avoid like the plague otherwise they have will upset your mental well being.

How would you do that? Are we allowed to share links?

Not allowed to share links directly in your sales but you can write on eBay sales post

Abyss on The Silver Forum Questions? - Use contact details below

Then you can set a buy it now price and make an offer price (set a minimum and any offers below automatically rejected). Receive any messages on eBay asking for discount on multiple items or what is your lowest price you can reply with a link to your sales thread on The Forum and view all automatic rejected offers on eBay for your items  and contact those potential buyers with message link to sales thread on the forum as well.

Be careful as you are potentially putting your account at risk.  It will only take one disgruntled customer to report your message directing them off site and you could get permanently banned.  I believe their software also has the ability to scan messages to look for contact details and external links being given out.

Yes, I agree, it wasn't the best of advise, just a thought.

I suggested you ask for a feedback revision, I have tried this sucessfully in the past. The person leaving negative feedback could be feeling some remorse after the event. Here's the ebay link https://sellercentre.ebay.co.uk/private/feedback , and it's about half way down the page. It might be worth a try and there is nothing to lose.

Hi @Abyss- similar scenario happened to me once- call eBay customer service and explain the circumstances and ask them to remove the unjust and offending feedback- they did this for me in the circumstance I found myself to be in.
For me, Ebay is unfortunately, a necessary evil when it comes to selling items.

I was aware of this policy but at the same time I have generated over £800 commissions for eBay as well. As my selling was short term strategy I took the risk going against this policy and getting my account banned (I was hoping if anyone at eBay noticed I would be given a warning initially but so far no-one has). The strategy not something planning on doing in the long term I am down to my last 200 oz Silver for sale.

I think a good strategy (that I will start implementing) will be to send a letter in the package with further information on discounts, contact details and thesilverforum feedback screen shots on the other page :) I'm sure that s not outside their policy.

I’m sure plenty of people do it without incident, I just thought it’s worth making people aware so they can choose to take the risk or not.

I would imagine they target mostly businesses.  I have been an eBay business seller for 10 years and used to direct people to our website.  Then they started cracking down on it and a few people in a business forum I use got hit.  Now it’s not worth the risk for us.

I can't find anything in their T&Cs that specifically states you can't do that.  I guess they loosely cover it with this statement...

"Buyers and sellers can't: In any communications with another eBay member, refer to or promote external websites that facilitate sales outside of eBay or other businesses"

But its harder for them to determine what you have sent in the post with an order and would rely on a customer reporting it.

We enclose an invoice with all orders that gives our phone number, email and website.  I'm sure that must have led to some people buying from us directly over the years.

Thanks I have contacted eBay and highlighted the conversations we have had but unfortunately because this related to a second purchase and we had no communications about this just a straight negative feedback eBay advised I contact the buyer and try and find out what going on an offer a re-fund. All I need some sort of message back from goldensilvercoins saying they have made a mistake or want a refund and eBay will remove the negative feedback.

I see.

I suspect, and as per your initial post, he is taking the pi$$- I am pretty certain he won’t go for a refund- he was likely trying it on for a partial refund- in any case, nobber!

@Abyss, I don’t think having one instance of adverse feedback will make any difference to any forthcoming offerings you make on eBay. I do acknowledge however it will stick in your throat for a while.

Thanks I don't think it will have a long term impact but once done selling the remainder of my Silver stack I most likely will not be selling anything for the next 3-4 years and the next items I will want to sell will be couple of full set of 1 oz Gold Queens Beasts coins and having a negative feedback stating I am using fake photos on a past sale will undermine my credibility.

If you can’t get the neg feedback removed, make sure you publicly respond to it in a really professional way.  I will still buy from sellers with neg feedbacks if they have left a reasonable response to it.  Especially if it highlights the person who left the neg as being unreasonable.

This is a great idea- leave a response that reads something like....

'I'm really sorry you still feel this way despite my very best efforts to help resolve your query.  The offer of a full refund remains open to you'

And to show him up further you could add...

'and the refund will remain open to you for the next 6 months from the date of this response'.

You should make a further tidy profit if he demands a refund in 6 months!  And you get free storage! 😁

By the time you sell your remaining 200 oz of Silver, that feedback won't be visible unless someone trawls your feedback extremely thoroughly and scrolls and scrolls...

Also if you notice on your feedback summary- it only reflects the last 12 months anyway, here's mine below.

I am always puzzled by the dispatch time star ratings as I always list with a 2 day dispatch time and never deviate, but occasionally someone will give less than 5 stars!

My deficits of 5 stars for Postage I can only attribute to sending overseas using the eBay 'Global Shipping Program' a complete rip off to the buyer- but I feel more comfortable on eBay shipping the item as my responsibility ends at their Lichfield depot.  I only ever charge the cost price for UK postage.

I wouldn't say anything about refunds in a feedback response as it might encourage future buyers to ask for one.  eBay have still got that frustrating 80 character limit on feedback and responses so you really have to try and fit a lot of context in not a lot of space!

True enough.  eBay really do lean toward the buyer wearing the trousers on any deal struck.  I forgot about the 80 characters.

The guy in question could have bought a full monster box of @Abyss sent back an empty box, claimed it was full and would have still got a refund.

Sounds like he was hoping you'd offer a refund right of the bat. Then gave up after he saw some fight in you 😄

Learnt very early on (thank you to one of BYB videos) to video record all boxing and unboxing of PMs regardless purchased privately or from a dealer. Admittedly I only do this for Gold but whenever I accept a return even on Silver I video record the unboxing process and have evidence of what I have received back to cover myself.

The items in question what I sold are.......... Star Wars coins
