Announcing TheSilverForum competition. Higher, Lower, Sideways

Recommended Posts

Roll up, Roll up, and play for free! Higher, Lower or Sideways! Where will Spot end up this week? Think you can predict it? Then come play along!

Yes, The Silver Forum has decided to run a series of competitions. They will be free to enter for all forum members.

It's really rather simple. All you have to do is predict if the closing spot price for silver at the end of the week will be Higher, Lower, or roughly the same (Sideways) as it was the week before.

And there is a prize too. A half ounce silver Australian Great White Shark!

So, keep your eyes peeled next week for more information. Invite your silver stacking friends to join up and have a punt. Study those charts, read the news, and make your best guess at to where spot prices will go!

The first game starts next weekend. Watch this space for further announcements.

The Rules:

  1. The aim is to predict if the Spot price of silver at close of trading on the Friday of the current week, as listed by silverprice.org, will be higher, lower, or sideways, compared to the closing price the previous week.
  2. Predictions must be made in GBP only by 23:59 GMT on the Thursday of each week. Late entries will not be included.
  3. Those who predict correctly can enter the following round the next week where the game will repeat.
  4. The game repeats each week until only 1 person makes a correct prediction, thus winning the game. If no one predicts the correct price movement in any round, that round will be replayed.
  5. Higher means spot increased by 11p or more on the previous close.
  6. Sideways means silver has not gained or lost any more than 10p on the previous close.
  7. Lower means spot decreased by 11p or more on the previous close.
  8. Posts in a game thread will be excluded if they are edited at any time after they are submitted. If you make a typo, PM the admin who is running the competition to correct it for you.
  9. Each week that the competition is running, the previous weeks spot price and the exact bands defining Higher, Lower and Sideways will be listed, and the names of the winners of the previous round who are eligible to play that week, (Unless it is the first week of a new competition) will be posted to the game thread. A new game thread will be started for each round.
  10. Admins, moderators or any other staff of TheSilverForum.com, or sponsors thereof can play, but are not eligible to win any prizes. In the event that an admin, moderator, staff or sponsor is the only player to make a correct guess at any point during the game, then that round will be replayed without them. If we reach a point where one forum member and one admin, moderator, staff or sponsor are the only two remaining players, that member will be deemed to have won the prize, although the final round will still be played for bragging rights!
  11. Rules are subject to change at the discretion of TheSilverForum.com
  12. Disclaimer: every effort will be made to avoid mistakes, but players accept that they still may occur. It is meant as entertainment only and as such TheSilverForum.com accepts no responsibility for damages or losses which may arise. Moderators decision on the outcome of the competition is final.

So lets get this straight we are quoting in £ not $.

In increments of £0.10 for example if the spot is on Friday week 0  £10.00

then on week 1  spot is £10.20  Higher

then on week 2  spot is £10.10  Lower

then on week 3  spot is £10.10  Sideways

then on week 4  spot is £10.40  Higher

Etc

All entries must be in by 23.59 UK time GMT

May I suggest that you state that, mistakes cannot be rectified and by taking part you agree not to seek compensation if mistakes are made.

Entries made by Thursday, does that mean 24 hours before close on Friday or 8 days before close the following Friday?

Or is it a mistake and you mean Sunday?

Markets close at around 10pm on Friday, so you have to guess H/L/S by the night before.

Stacker since 2013

The game cycles each week.

Lets say spot closes at £10 the week before.

Round 1:

Previous Weeks Spot = £10 so....

Higher would £10.11 or more

Sideways £9.90 to £10.10 inclusive.

Lower £9.89 or lower

So lets say At COB on Friday spot is £10.50 = in this case those who chose Higher would be eligible to play the following week.

Round 2:

Previous Weeks Spot = £10.50 so....

Higher would be £10.61 or more

Sideways would be £10.40 to £10.60 inclusive

Lower would be £10.39 or less

If on Friday of that week spot closes at £10.45 those who chose Sideways would continue to the next round the following week.

And on we go till we have a winner.

You have to make your guess by 23:59 GMT on the Thursday of each week.

I don't really know what you mean by the last line. Remember rule 8:

8. Posts in a game thread will be excluded if they are edited at any time after they are submitted. If you make a typo, PM the admin who is running the competition to correct it for you.

Hope this clears things up?

can someone put an entry/guess deadline for each week as it comes?

(I'm a little confused)

HH

Not sure I understand your question.

The deadline for each round is Thursday 23:59 GMT.

Rule 2. Predictions must be made in GBP only by 23:59 GMT on the Thursday of each week. Late entries will not be included

Might be confusing because the competition doesn't start this week. Current plan is to start next weekend. i.e. guess by 23.59 GMT Thursday 16th October, Higher, Lower or Sideways, for the closing price on Friday 17th October.

No guesses yet, this is just the pre warning, so that no one misses the entry.

OK guys I not making my self clear. This is a forum that does not make a lot of money, last thing you need is some idiot making a claim in the small claims court, you need a disclaimer.

Judges decision is final

Taking part you except that it is a bit of fun and mistakes maybe made.

Something on the above type of lines should cover you, I ran a comp years ago in my business for my costomers in the motor trade and that is what happened to me, oh the court found on my side but it was still a pain in the ar_e

Thanks Pipers. I am not sure we need to go that far to be honest, but I expect you are right, always worth covering ourselves. People do the oddest things lol I'll think about how to add something to the rules.

Cheers Mate
