Does anybody know where to ...

I'm looking to compile a gift set for a couple of newborn relatives comprising a mixture of 8 UK and Ozzie coins from their years of birth, 2017 & 2018.

I thought it would be good gift for their 21st so will have to squirrel them away for their future.

I decided that on two different Britannias plus Big Ben/Tower Bridge and a UK Lunar coin for the UK component from their respective years. Trouble is, as most concur, the 2018 UK year of the dog is not great so am thinking of maybe replacing it with a UK 2 dragon coin.

Now, the Ozzie part is easy. Kangaroo/Kookaburra/Koala and Perth Lunar. Ah, but the problem being of course that the Perth Lunar is a different size to the others making getting a presentation box difficult. So with much searching I discovered that The Royal Australian Mint also have a Year of the .........  coin. The Rooster looks nice but apart from a place in Hong Kong and one in the USA, I can't find it anywhere. The 2018 dog look good in gold  but as yet can't find the silver, maybe it's not out yet.

Does anybody know where I could get a 1 oz silver 1$ AUSTRALIAN ROOSTER 2017 ? Goldsilver.be are out of stock. I could always source it from Australia but it's a bit of a hassle.

Thanks for your help.

Great idea this, I have a similar arrangement for a godson, collecting a date run of Britannias for him.

If you wanted something hand poured to compliment the coins just let me know ?

I have done quite a lot of christening gifts and "welcome to the world" pieces, silver is traditional and perfect for something like this.

2017 Anniversary Britannia and 2018 Oriental Border Britannia. They are probably on the European Mint Group Order – just mind that you pay VAT here in the UK. Why not add a Maple Leaf, a Krugerrand (2017 silver) and an American Silver Eagle ?

Edit: if you wanted to keep it within the Commonwealth topic, you could always swap for Kiwis

Have you considered a gold half sovereign as an alternative to a mix of once ounce silver and the worries about suitable box / presentation etc ?

Lovely idea!

You'd need to take all available anti milk-spotting measures for the Brits (especially any regular ones) and the Roo (if it's a Perth and not a RAM).

Might be worth buying doubles of these from different sources (I've found with Brits they tend to milk in batches).

Then again, it might be worth buying a complete set of doubles in case you fall in love with the set so much down the years you don't want to part with it when the time comes :P

This present is for a baby who will be a child for a long time. When will they appreciate these coins? Hopefully the gift will foster an interest where none might have existed. So the coin(s) need to be interesting to a child to get that interest off to a good start. i would get something like Disney character coins. The images on the coins would be interesting to a child. A sovereign, i think that is good but is it of interest to a child? - i suspect not. It doesn't have any chocolate inside.

Just unpacked some stunning silver Britannias with the oriental border.
They are a 2018 coin, scratch free and supplied in clear capsules - well done the RM so why cannot they do this for all their coins ?

Sometimes you flip a coin and it lands on its edge - (no damage done.)

Thanks for your replies. Nice idea @BackyardBullion - ingot on order from you but feel coins are better  for these children. The reason I decided on 1 oz silver bullion coins (don't wear gold - didn't enter my head in all honesty and chocolate sovereigns ones likely to be stale in 21 years time!) is because these babies have more than one nationality so I wanted to give them something of value  that reflects their heritage and took into consideration CGT. They might generate an interest in collecting and even be worth something monetarily in 2038/9.

I wanted to include a Kiwi as well as these babies can lay claim to three nationalities but couldn't find any bullion coins of the correct years, 2017 & 2018 so any pointers @augur are welcome. There are some lovely coins available but I prefer bullion ones @sixgun for the reasons stated.

I also did double up on each coin @kimchi so I too have collection from said years.

2017                                                                      2018

Britannia                                                               Britannia

Britannia Anniversary                                         Britannia Oriental

UK Year of the Rooster                                       ? UK  Two Dragons?

Big Ben                                                                 Tower Bridge

Kangaroo                                                              Kangaroo

Koala                                                                     Koala

Kookaburra                                                           Kookaburra

KIWI?                                                                     KIWI?

Trying to keep it fairly evenly split bearing in mind that there are not so many bullion New Zealand coins.

There are loads of Niue bullion coins to choose from bud - not too much of a stretch I think (maybe, but maybe it is?) as they're minted in New Zealand as it's a self-governing state in free association with New Zealand, part of the Commonwealth, and its inhabitants are New Zealand citizens. Just a thought!

Thanks Kimchi. Niue is a coral atoll with nothing going for it with 90% of its population living in New Zealand 1500 miles away. They use the NZ mint to generate income via the coins and while they have some lovely ones, unfortunately, they don't fit the profile.

The kids father was born in New Zealand, hence the necessity for the coins to be from there.

Yep, the coins have to be UK, Australian and New Zealand for these kids and any more to follow in the future. Hence I want to keep it simple and only use bullion coins ensuring a ready supply into the future.
