Some bit off more than they could chew I am guessing....

ebay completed in the box at 600 (cheap) to 700. These would be a person who needed to sell quickly and still made some profit.....we are talking a couple of lightweights out of 2,000

a common phenomenon, the initial price rise as buyers are rushing to buy and supply is limited. Then more come onto the market and buyers disappear as their orders are filled.

don't forget this is a long term game; the 1989 proof took a long time to really take off.

50% profit in a few short weeks aint to be sniffed at even at the bottom end....top end short term, some were pulling well over 100% in a few days  !

I can double, triple my investment in the 5 coin and premium 3 coin sets right now, easily, if I wished......but I am not going to...let the lightweights clear themselves out of the way and just wait.

Dont forget, we are talking proofs here....

Proof 1817 Gold Sovereign.

The 1817 Gold Sovereign PR65 was sold in 2009 for $18,000.00 at an auction house in the USA. It was an Ultra Cameo and absolutely beautiful. The coin was graded by NGC.

More recently in 2011 a 1817 Proof Gold Sovereign was sold for nearly $13,000 at the same auction house.

Good point but the 1817 proof will have been made in smaller quantities than the 2017 mintage of 10,500 singles plus those in sets.

Those sales you mention are a bargain imo:)

Oh absolutely. But if you look at the 1989 and prices there and we all know they will do just fine. They already have been.
