  1. Correct, they both contain 1/2oz of gold; the overall (gross) weight of the krugerrand coin is a bit more.
  2. Indeed, and their best price sovereign works out at even better value. Way to go ATS
  3. [https://www.atsbullion.com/fractional-gold-coins/12-ounce-krugerrand-gold-coin] Great price for 1/2oz ... even better for 2
  4. Looking forward to this... there are some fantastic UK silver pourers, making some wonderful pieces - your pours look equally as good, I'll be waiting patiently for the new year
  5. approx. 155 x 2021 bullion grade - I think that would be a great retirement investment
  6. Yup, any junk or .925 silver at spot or less, but focussing on gold right now (still fond of some hand-poured .999 silver though... it's my weakness)
  7. You know you want it, @LawrenceChard - be a nice one for your collection!

    selling

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKOhq7VQ-vk] Agreed, time to make sure my stack includes some "instructions for sale" ( #1: TSF Membership )

    Worth grading?

I bought up a 1/2oz Krug, recently from ATS Bullion, a few % over spot (unseen, no pics). This is what arrived - a 1992 Proof: It's not perfect, there are a few small marks but nothing major. Don't know if it's surface dust and I don't want to open the capsule. According to SA Mint, there were only 1501 produced that year, and only in proof. Do you think it's worth sending for grading? Would it help any potential resale value?
  10. Interesting... the various in-line connections look similar to other belts / ropes use on horses. A variation on this idea... a sporran chain from a Scottish Kilt?
  11. @ilovesilverireallydo - do the trailing hands clasp one another, or are they made to hold something else?
  12. Thought this too, but most of those I've seen in action have 3 or 4 chains (for stability) and some way of being able to lift the lid. I'm sure the collective minds of TSF are only a few posts away from solving this one!
  13. Just asked my missus to take a look, and straight away she said, "it's a chain for reading glasses" and that was even before she saw the little hands. Sounds right?
  14. I miss @Wonger - hasn't been on since last August. Any downward gold price, was always accompanied by a significant increase in the number of his posts.

    Fake Silver

Did you keep a record of where you bought them? It may be an early purchase, but worth contacting the seller...
  16. Hi Niall, Fellow Irishman, but living in the UK. Welcome to the forum. I only started collecting / stacking a few years ago, and this community has been a great source of knowledge (and deals!). Totally agree - very wise decision, I only wish I had known about precious metals, back in my 20s! Any particular reason why? Unless you have something specific you need to spend the cash on right now, the prevalent advice on here would be to hold, or in my case, trade for gold.

    Silver to Gold

Rough estimates, based on current bullion values: 12oz Silver for 1 x Full Sovereign 50oz Silver for 1 x 1oz Gold
  18. According to the Google dictionary - Bullion: gold or silver in bulk before coining, or valued by weight in bulk... is a singular item - Nope before coining... is a coin - Nope valued by weight... priced at a % premium over spot, based on weight - Yup Technically, according to this definition, they are correct - this does not qualify as bullion... but it is such a lovely chunk of gold (go easy on them @LawrenceChard)
  19. Likewise... picked up my first 50 peso recently from HGM for a few points over spot - it really is stunning, both to hold and look at! It does have 4 x surface marks, both front and back, as if it were in some kind of holder previously (not fully indented or scratched, but visible); but I'll take that for such a wonderful piece. Definitely gonna add some more, whenever I can!
