The only way the Government will find out that you have gifted the gold, is if you write a post on an open forum stating such gift. So I wouldn't do th.... Oh, wait

Completed!  My collection of first and last year of each QE2 portrait.  It took quite a lot of hunting around, as many of them are proof-only years.
    So that's:
    1957 - 1968 1974 - 1984 1985 - 1997 1998 - 2015 2015 - 2022

Yes some people collect for just hobby, if your doing it purely to hedge against inflation, you have also then kind of said what sort of thing you want to collect. You do not want special release coins or numismatics coins. You want to try and buy as close to spot as possible for your transaction gold +3/5% depending on size of item silver will be more due to VAT etc so potentially spot plus 50%
As for the not being able to sell, we'll if there is complete currency collapse that is a potential, but then what would you want the fiat money for anyway? What can happen is people need to sell gild/silver due to unexpected bill and have no fiat money so may not get desired price due to needing money now.
One thing i can say is, Nothing is certain everything has an amount of speculation to it. If it was guaranteed everyone would do it.
Not financial advice just my thoughts on the matter

ShineyMagpie got a reaction from James32 in 1966 South Africa Gold 2 Rand Coins - Genuine or Fake?
@LawrenceChard So they are they are both fakes?
If i decifered your enigma encoding correctly 😝 as they should both have an Au of 917 with a tolerance of +/- 3.
    But coin 2 has obverse (O) of 912  and a reverse(R) of 907
    & Coin 1 has O of 912 and a R of 913
Making them both out of tolerance, and so fake? Genuinely curious so hear more!
@James32 think we are both wrong did you get your coat?

Get a silver membership at a minumum - without a paid membership, access to listings is delayed 3 days, which means most will be gone by the time you see them.

These would be my favourites at the moment, I know it's only 5, I suppose I'd add a Britannia perhaps 2010 and leave 2 spaces for the remaining Tudor Beasts if I had to choose 8 🤔

My guess (and it is just that) coin 1 is fake, coin 2 is real.
    1) has clear definitions around edges of image but details lost especially in the face and the background behind the springbok
    2) looks to have coin ware as apposed to just pour definitions on the front foot of the springbok. And still more definitions and detail on the rest of the coin.
Happy to be wrong, all part of learning.

That one's not too bad, seems to be the Unicorn and Griffin that are now super expensive to pick up.  Still probably looking at £65 though

Bars may have a lower premium sometimes, however they are not CGT free.
No & yes. CGT rules apply as the coins are uk legal tender. An sovereign that was minted in SA (South Africa) while technically could be classed as foreign would still be CGT free. However Coins (including pre- 1837 sovereigns) which are not legal tender are not currency therefore not CGT exempt.
