Silfrfish got a reaction from Zhorro in Today I Received.....
Thank you to @LiquidMetalsUK and @Peacemaker for providing a few pieces for this little chest that sits by my laptop and keeps me grounded in reality while I’m tippy tappy typing nonsense all day! Would a hammerhead ever encounter Morgan silver dollars in the wild? At the same time as florins? Ok Ok, enough procrastinating already…

A big thank you to @9x883 for this beautiful 2003 1oz Britannia.
This is my favourite image, to me it represents courage and sacrifice and I am reminded of the British nurse Edith Cavell, who in WWI was executed for assisting allied soldiers escape from occupied land.

Gold Ashrafi Coins – Mamluk Sultanate – Egypt – Gorgeous Historic Gold Coins! – £295 Posted Each – UK 🇬🇧
Eight gorgeous gold Ashrafi coins from the Mamluk Sultanate of Egypt.
The Mamluk Sultanate was a state that ruled Egypt as well as the Levant and the Hejaz from the middle of the 13th to the early 16th century. The Mamluk Sultanate was ruled by a military caste of Mamluks with the Mamluk Sultan as its head.
Each of these beautiful gold Ashrafi coins is struck from approximately 3.4 grams of high purity (90%+) gold. Mamluk gold Ashrafis like these were conventionally struck to a weight of approximately 3.5 grams which was the same as that of the standard gold trade coin of the period, the Venetian Ducat (Zecchino). I recently posted and sold three of these Venetian Zecchino coins and have more available for sale. Coins such as these are generally of the highest purity.
Available for sale here are four gold Mamluk Ashrams struck during the reign of Mamluk Sultan al-Zahir Jaqmaq (AH 842-857 / AD 1438-1453) and four struck during the reign of Mamluk Sultan al-Ashraf Barsbay (AH 825-841 / AD 1422-1438).
I have provided photos of each coin individually on a scale. There is barely any fluctuation in weight between the coins in this lot, but feel free to pick and choose the coins that you like and let me know!
Each coin is almost 600 years old and has a melt value of over £185.
Price is £295 each including fully-insured postage to anywhere in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland! 🇬🇧
Payment via bank transfer to UK business bank account, PayPal, and debit or credit card via my website.
🇺🇸 NOTE TO USA BUYERS: Price is $385 USD including fully-insured shipping to the United States! ✈️📦🇺🇸
Thank you! 🌟

They are fascinating coins. I did a short write-up on these in a post I did on some Mamluk Ashrafi gold coins recently. These were struck in the same weight and approximately the same purity so as to make trade easier back in the day.

Out of work at the moment, I'm afraid, but a piece of history. Ducats became an informal common currency with about 30 polities minting them at one point or another. Predates the Euro by more than half a millennium.

Venice Gold Ducats – Zecchino – Alvise Mocenigo II – Seven Stunning Examples! – £550 Posted Each – UK 🇬🇧
From its introduction in 1284 to the fall of Venice to Napoleon in 1797, the design of the Venetian gold ducat, more formally the zecchino, remained unaltered for more than 500 years.
Originally called a ‘ducat’ (‘ducato’) after the ruling Doge of Venice, it was latterly decided to describe such coins as zecchinos after the Zecca (mint) of Venice. The reason for this change was that in the year of 1543 Venice started to mint silver coins also described as ducats.
The obverse of these zecchinos feature a standing depiction of Saint Mark presenting staff to a kneeling doge (chief magistrate of Venice or Genoa). The letters ‘DVX’ alight vertically at the top of the staff.
The reverse boasts a forward-facing figure of Christ within a beaded, star-lined ellipse.
Each of the beautiful examples on offer here dates from the period of Doge Alvise Mocenigo II of the Republic of Venice (1700-1709) and is over 315 years old.
Each comprised of 3.50 grams of pure gold (trade standard of the time).
Price is £550 each including fully-insured postage to mainland UK and Northern Ireland.
Shipped price to the United States is $700 USD. ✈️📦🇺🇸
Payment via bank transfer to UK business bank account, PayPal, and any debit or credit card via my website.
