    Zombie alert!
As this is the most recent thread on this topic it's resurrected instead of posting  a new one.
I've been tempted to buy new copper products until I read What Are UK Coins Made From? - The Coin Expert and realised I've been a copper stacker most of my life.  There'd be more in the photo's if I hadn't spent them at the corner shop cos they're always needing small change.
I'm current separating old and new 10p and 5p coins too as they are 75% copper and 25% nickel.  I need a maths expert to work out the value of a kilo of those.  The designs were changed before the metal content so don't rely on sight. New ones are stainless steel with nickel plating.  Saving the older ones now just in case they change the laws regarding damage to our currency.

    Hello.
I'm Nik and currently waiting for a first delivery of two 1oz silver bars.  I chose not to hallmark but changed my mind after researching.
I'm hoping to stack for my grandchildren and their parents protection.
A recent exchange with the Royal Mint put me off purchasing there as they do not send to a secure location (local post office), it has to be the billing address.  My letterbox isn't the most secure.

I don't have Paypal, online banking, or a smart phone, but I do have a local post office that sells postal orders and amazon vouchers, for cash.

It's the BBC, what's the motive behind the story?

I'm really not into conspiracy theories, the BBC has many faults, but in reality, the world is just a lot more boring than people think it is. Literally all the people that were affected had to do was initially take delivery of their silver rather than vaulting it (would have been apparent much earlier on there were issues if they weren't delivering anything at all). Once in there hands it could go wherever they chose, no records beyond the initial purchase, which is the same for vaulting or direct delivery, even secondary market is tracible unless you do face to face, cash only.

What you have here is a con artist that was defrauding people of their investment.

It does show some of the risks of the paper and gold silver market as well, although, whilst there is undoubtedly fraud in this market too, it does serve a purpose to allow investment\trading without having to ship hundreds of tons of metal around the world on a constant basis. Imagine trying to trade daily fluctuations in spot but you couldn't sell what you purchased until the boat from China turned up 2 months later.

That's just bizarre thinking. Never mind the countless other news outlets around the world that have covered the exact same story in pretty much exactly the same way.

This part should be "Today I Found".
Something a little different to the norm. After clearing out old drawers, I came across this Waterman L'Etalon fountain pen (Confirmed on a British fountain pen page) My Dad gave this to me 20 years ago and I forgot I had it.
I just tossed it aside like a normal pen with no interest but I kept it as it was a nice gift. It turns out that it's a hallmarked sterling silver barrel and lid with an 18kt gold nib. I was stunned when I was told this today. It's worth a fair amount as it was discontinued 20 years ago and is now a rare item.
It's like finding treasure. Sentimentality and value. Perfect!
