Spyder got a reaction from Johnorob89 in The original 1oz Gold Coin Krugerrand Trade Complete
Hello
Here I have a very nice condition 1974 Krugerrand for exchange. The Krugerrand is the first and original 1oz coin where others followed. Approximately 34g of 22ct gold. A proper gold colour.
Everyone should have at least one Krugerrand in their stack.
Will exchange for 4 nice condition Sovereigns and £50 my way. Valuing each Sovereign at £11.50 above spot and the Krugerrand at spot.
This a great opportunity for someone to move from fractional to the an ounce.
If a deal is agreed, both party will pay for their own postage. TRADE AGREED

Spyder got a reaction from MrStacker in 1995 Gold Proof Sovereign Three Coin Set. Low Mintage of only 1112 SOLD
Hello
Today, I have decided to put up for sale my 1995 Proof three sovereign set with Original RM Box and COA. Low mintage worldwide of only 1112.
Most of these sets have been broken up and slabbed. I can not find another complete set online today.
Looking closely, the coins are in excellent condition( photos taken with coins in capsules) and could be graded with minor conservation. It seems in the past someone has handled the half Sovereign, learnt their mistake and never touched the other two coins.
The Royal Mint has the proof 1995 Sovereign for sale at £1000 and the Half at £420. Other places, I have seen the Dove double for £1000+
I think £1650 is probably about right but I am open to fair offers. Try you never know. SOLD

I am not defending any mint here......My 10 pence worth.
All proof coins have some manufacturing imperfections to some degree that is a fact, I handle, grade and QC check more than many people on here. Is there such thing as a "perfect coin"? Answer no.
Ultimately you have to be happy with what you are buying however you also need to realise "proof" does not mean perfect. I know I might get a bit of a backlashing for saying this but it's the absolute truth and honesty. Do I return some coins? Yes but also I do understand how coins grade.
The Jubilees sovereigns had the same amount of imperfections, they suffered with very greasy fields and loads of "die pick up" and they did not get anywhere close to the scrutiny the memorials are getting.......It was always going to be the case that with a heavily frosted design.
You are paying a lot of money and you have the right to be critical, however you are likely never to be happy with the full set of coins you receive from anyone, and its very unlikely the replacement will be any better and it will not be 100% perfection.

I would say it all depends on the price difference and if you are after grading. The above top coin looks like something is at 7 clockface position. To me that stands out a lot more then where you put your marker. It might be from the capsule.
For me if the only problem with the bottom coin is that mole, I would take that.
If they are priced as perfect coins, then I would not buy either and wait for the perfect coin.

The seller must have bought a few feet above the top of the market. He's trying to recoup his losses. That wouldn't have happened if he had listened to Wonger.

I think this seller should definitely be on the list for most overpriced sovereign and on all their other listing. Still using covid and lock down in their listing for why items might be delayed. Incredible anyone would ever buy from this seller.

Indeed. The BRICS nations buying large quantities of gold, while at the same time de-dollerising and setting up a commodities based currency will have a huge effect on the value of the dollar. In effect, some BRICS countries & Saudis already trading with each other using their own currencies instead of the dollar will make the dollar redundant, and all those trillions of dollars round the world could well come back home to the U.S, creating hyperinflation.
I believe this is why we are seeing the U.S. ramping up the miltary rhetoric against countries like China, Russia, Iran & Mexico in the same way they did against Gadaffi, who was planning the African Gold Dinar as an African currency to trade oil. I mean, Jesus, that idiot Biden has already threatened Saudi Arabia with "consequences".

Very yes. Even our 5p & 10p are now coated steel...
I heard a good comment the other day from an American source, something like "In 1969 a Quarter would by a gallon of gas. Today that same Quarter would still buy a gallon of gas".

Spyder reacted to paulmerton in Unusual Sigma Metalytics Readings
I've said it on here many times before, but all the basic sigma does is tell you if the resistivity of the test subject matches the resistivity of the metal you're hoping it to be.
You can make non-precious alloys that have the same resistivity as pure gold for instance. That doesn't mean the test subject is pure gold and it shouldn't be interpreted that way. However, if the resistivity doesn't match, then you know it's not gold - that's where the true usefulness lies.
I knew this by reading the manuals beforehand and still decided to buy one. Coupled with a set of sovereign scales (which effectively check both the weight and the density are correct) and some common sense I think it's a useful tool.
