  1. Welcome to TSF! Plenty of Sovereigns and Britannias to be found around here ... and a million other shiny temptations!
  2. "Scientists baffled as the world's first Total Golden Eclipse engulfs the tiny island of St. Helena in the South Pacific. Bemused locals spoke of the air shimmering with an 'oriental' glow and some reported the distant sounds of orchestral, philharmonic music wafting across the northern shores."
  3. Adding that 50p was actually very helpful. What a lovely collection. Unfortunately, being of Welsh heritage, I'm philosophically opposed to any depictions of a slain dragon. (The white one notwithstanding). 😉 As for picking up both the others... well that's just solid advice, for which I thank you.
  4. Generally speaking, do folks buy coins directly from NGC, or are they bought separately and sent to NGC to grade after the fact? Just curious.
  5. I've only been in the game for about 3 weeks so I've only ever known these prices. That said, I know there's a lot to be said for cost avereging, so as I'm in for the long haul, I'm fairly bullish about it as a long-term plan. For me, if I break even in 20 years time, that will still be a win. My 'wealth' will be outside of the system and even if the spot price is at parity with now, I expect that I'll feel like a winner from an inflationary point of view. Anything above that, even better. The other thing front of mind for me right now is the Gold : Silver ratio. It sits at c.80 currently. So hypothetically speaking, even I can work out that if I buy into a stack of 80ozt silver now and the ratio moves to 50. I can cash in for 1ozt gold and retain 30ozt silver. That doesn't seem so far-fetched. All things considered then, I'll continue stacking - gold for the long term and silver based on the ratio numbers. But that's just me. And even my kids know to ignore what I have to say.
  6. I think that the digital oligarchs will get to this before governments or sovereign states do. Determining what currency you can use within the multiverse, what goods and services you can purchase and restricing access based on conformity etc.
  7. As ever @LawrenceChard, you are the oracle. NGC should have changed the 'First Strike' designation to 'Extra Virgin'. The Olive Oil people have had thousands out of me that way!
  8. This would lend itself to the thought that a 'first striking' would be more desirable. Is that a thing? And if so, how are later 'strikings' denoted / differentiated?
  9. As of the time of posting - 10:10am, the Gold - Silver ratio is above 80. Conventional wisdom (as far as I understand it) suggests that this is 'high' and that focussing on silver is a [quote] "correct" strategy. I'm new at all this but just wondering if this is the general concensus? Assuming that the ratio will close up at some point. Not looking for investment advice, just the conversation around the ratio and people's thoughts more broadly.
  10. As I understand it... pure alcohol is a cleaning agent. So, the stronger the alcohol, the cleaner you're living, right? 😎
  11. That's what I thought. It is pretty, sure enough. And it's forced me to confront an existential question. Do I prefer a unicoorn, or a lady in a robe? Tough call.
  12. I suspect this will be a quick one... I discovered the Royal Arms 1oz silver bullion coin yesterday. I don't think I've ever seen mention of it on the forum and I hadn't come it across it when browsing the dealers websites to date. So upon finding it on the Royal Mint site, I thought, "ooh, this must be new". But it isn't. It's in its 4th year. So I'm left pondering... what's it for? From what I can see, it fills precisely the same niche as the Britannia - namely, a sovereign bullion coin. Other than design it's identical to the Britannia in every other way. 38.61mm .999 fine silver (could do with an extra nine for me!) 1ozt £2 denomination It's clearly not a limited edition as it's had multiple mintings now. So, is it simply to add choice to the market? And is there anything that makes it more or less collectable / stackable than the Britannia (it is slightly more expensive). Thanks, FNF.
  13. Thanks @ChrisSilver. I was originally getting only two options to verify: Authenticator, or 'log in on a device already registered', which was no good. Anyway, I did the old, trusted reboot and followed your advice form there and all now seems well. Cheers. 👌 FNF.
  14. Hi, I tried that originally, but alas no joy. To access that part of my account I need to 're-authenticate', which necessitates the Google Authenticator, which I can't find the right code for. 😵
  15. Hi, I have Google Authenticator installed and set up on my phone. However, when prompted by TSF to input the code, I get an error saying it's the "wrong code for this community". Is there a TSF QR code or registration key that I need so that Google Authenticator knows that it's TSF-related? Sorry, I'm a bit dazeed and confused by trying and failing. Thanks, FNF.
  16. Hey welcome! If you haven't done already, it may be worth posting a topic in the silver section about cleeaning silver. I know nothing about it unfortunately, but I have seen some posts on here where folks have returned purchases because the coins had been cleaned, so worth bearing that in mind. Like I say though, no good listening to me but there are loads of knowledgeable folks on here who I'm sure would be happy to help with info.
  17. Does the novelty ever wear off? Or are we all closet Smaugs?

Is this what's become of modern storytelling? It's hardly Goonies is it? One-eyed Willy wouuld be turning in his grave.
  19. This is encouraging. Though it wouldn't be the first time I've been turned away from a bar.
  20. Yes, we really do get hammered on silver don't we.
