  1. Here in the US, GovMint/Modern Coin Mart is selling a PF70 Ultra Cameo REVERSE proof of the 2 oz. Coronation silver. I didn't know that a reverse proof of this coin was minted, but it sure looks awesome.
  2. I am not touching these. No interest whatsoever. This is like a gimmick coin to me like those coins from Niue, Palau, etc. that have everything imaginable as a subject. No thanks. Now, if the RM produces a coin of a crowned Anne Jessopp sitting on her throne, I'd buy it at all costs!
  3. Not me!! I enjoy emptying my bank and investment accounts and then taking out loan after loan to support the Royal Mint!
  4. Do we even know there will be a SoTD for his birthday? It's really not that big of a deal. For sure, I can see them coming out with the typical range of gold and silver coins to mark the occasion, however. I have absolutely no interest in a SoTD for KCIII's 75th birthday - with or without the crown.
  5. I don't mind the silhouette design (like the Rolling Stones) because it's difficult to capture a good portrait on the coin when the figure(s) are small. What I'm not crazy about is the colour on the figure. It cheapens it IMO. I ordered the 2 oz. silver to keep my collection going and because I have been a fan of Shirley Bassey for many years. I agree, though, these designs have not been turning too many heads.
  6. Very good pints! For the reasons you stated, I believe these will be pieces of history to hold on to. Add the coronation sovereigns to the Queen's Jubilee and memorial sovereigns and you really have something special. Glad I own them, including the SOTD sovereigns.
  7. Don't forget that on the Charles III coronation coins, he is wearing a crown. That is rare in and of itself. That certainly induced me to buy the silver coins plus 3 Sovereigns (SOTD, full, and piedfort).
  8. I will be first in line (queue) to buy a SOTD for Anne Jessopp's birthday! Oh, what the heck.....I'll also buy one for the head of quality control's birthday!
  9. I guess they won't be doing living monarchs.
  10. I'm looking forward to Charles III. The RM should make the reverse portrait exactly the same as the obverse. Or, pehaps an action scene of Charles III giving Camilla a wet peck on the cheek. I would really prefer a portrait of him sitting on his royal throne.
  11. Ordered my usual 1 oz. and 2 oz. of the Charles II.
  12. Just ordered my proof full and piedfort Sovereigns. With the SOTD, that's more than enough for me. On to the next wallet-cleaning coin!
  13. I have the same, but I am not considering quitting......yet.
  14. The SOTD case is an embarrassment! For a coin so important, historical, and expensive, this is just terrible. The regular proof Sovereign comes in a very nice wood case. Why doesn’t the SOTD come in a similar case, perhaps a darker wood to differentiate it? On a side note, the coin was packed so tightly in the case that it was almost impossible to get out. Plus, there was a tiny piece of plastic in the coin holder. Had to open it and blow it out. WTF??
  15. Yes, that is correct. Based on the Royal proclamation published 17th March 2023, the 2023 King Charles III Sovereigns will be the first of the new king's reign to feature the classic Benedetto Pistrucci designed St George & Dragon reverse. This obviously included the SOTD Sovereign.
  16. I agree on the KCIII 75th birthday SOTD. I could not care less. I consider myself one of the luckiest men on Earth because I am cherishing my 1/40 oz. gold KCIII coronation coin. And just as soon as I visit my optometrist for new magnifying glasses, I'll be able to see and enjoy it!
  17. For those of you lucky enough to get a bar or two, you will enjoy them. BYB does a great job making and packing them, and each bar comes in a little velvet sack with a COA card. All of his bars are hallmarked, so you know it's as good as good can get. If you miss out on this release, just wait for the next one, or you can order a bar or round from his website. You can also have him custom create a bar.
  18. Although I often buy coins already graded, I never send the raw coins out for grading that I buy from the mint or dealers. I am a collector and do not buy coins to sell, so I really don't have much interest. Part of it is the fear that the coin I will send out will come back graded lower than I expected.
  19. Dealers seem to be selling RM coins at issue price (or less). Not only will they inspect the coins before sending them to you, but you will also avoid the frustrating queue. It will take a little longer to get the coins, but it may be worth saving the hassle and frustration to many people.
  20. I just found out that it looks like the individual proof sovereigns and sets will be released in June 2023, with the Piedfort Sovereign and Brilliant Uncirculated 5 Sovereign Piece to follow in July.
  21. I've been told that the individual proof Sovereigns and sets are expected to be released in June.
  22. Got my 1/40 oz. today. I love that thing. I can’t see it, but I love it! I can’t figure out how they got all that detail on a virtual dot.
  23. In the U.S., we don't have all these QC issues with the U.S. Mint. The coins they produce may not be all MS or PF 70s, but we don't see the glaring and numerous QC issues we're seeing from the RM. The U.S. Mint doesn't produce as many different coins as the RM, but mintages of each coin are very large. I think the RM is biting off more than it can chew with continuous new releases that they can't keep up with. Now, their goal does not seem to be quality but rather get as many out the door as possible. Apparently, all the returns are not bothering them. But, if they spent more resources on QC before the coins leave the mint, they would be able to spend less time and money handling all the returns plus irate customer complaints.
  24. I'm still waiting for many of the coins I ordered. But, I get the majority of mine from dealers, so that will take a little longer. Plus, I live across the pond, and packages take time to get to me. I still order some coins from the RM - such as the Flying Scotsman and Britannia proof/reverse proof set - and I'm still waiting for those. Guess I'm just destined to be a gentleman (?) in waiting! 😭
