  1. On a serious note. I manage a safe storage facility so send all your shiny to me and I'll take really good care of it. Special discount for all of my silver forum chums.
  2. I do apologise but I love your honesty and willingness to at least think about it. This is coming from someone that nearly blew a £2k premium on a 1oz monkey coin just last week because it had a #01 on the COA (and an overall limited mintage of 888). However, the kind members of this forum brought me to my senses before I went all in. I've decided that bullion is just a much safer option for my sanity, even if I do get tempted by the odd proof or graded coin.
  3. I was thinking a bit more about this, and on the face of it, £2600 seems like a silly offer given how much everyone has spent. However, perhaps it's just that the Royal Mint absolutely ripped everyone a new one with their initial premiums and a lot of people went for it regardless. If collectors are buying these coins, they can't all then complain about the Royal Mint inflating prices year on year. The RM will keep raising the price so long as there's demand. A 5 sov is roughly £1830 at spot, so £2600 still actually represents a pretty huge premium given that it's a brand new coin (albeit with some potential for it to be a future winner if you're willing to sit and wait). Still, it's a risk and even at £2600, it's £770 more than the coin's metal is worth.
  4. You've been going for PF70s when what you needed to be doing was finding low mintage, ugly coins that no one wants, with a #1 coa! I've got a 1oz banger I can flog you for £5k if interested? Sound investment, I tell ya!
  5. I've rarely experienced a quick in and out job with that kind of satisfaction.
  6. I was looking to buy *something* related to the platinum jubilee, memorial, coronation etc - just to bung away and forget about. Issue is, I don't have time to keep up with all the releases and to me, it just seems like a hugely saturated market with too much choice (Royal Mint's fault?) and so I've ended up not buying anything! Especially when you add proofs versus bullion into the mix, as well as all the different denominations and sets. At this point, I'm just overwhelmed and confused.
  7. I bought a 1oz 2011 Brit.. in 2011. Completely random purchase. Paid £800 and felt disgusted with myself for wasting money. Put it in a draw and forgot about it. Didn't buy anything else until 2020 when I realised it had nearly doubled in price and my bank savings were doing absolutely bugger all. So yeah, if only I'd been watching the price more closely, I'd have probably gotten in sooner.
  8. I briefly had visions of waiting until 2028 (year of the monkey) and then selling it at Sotheby's to a billionaire Chinese investor that only wants his cardboard coa with #1 on there. Silver price will clearly have made it to the moon by that point so it was all looking like an early retirement for me until you ruthlessly (but thankfully) smashed by dreams.
  9. I'm gonna print out this thread to show it to him followed by a passionate declaration that he can shove it right up his ringpiece for trying to take my pants down with his investment sweet talk.
  10. lol, but does it have a little printed "01" on the cardboard it comes with?!
  11. £3,500 but I felt I could get it for less. He probably just looked at that BBP link. I've only bought a couple of proofs in the past and honestly haven't got a clue what value it really adds, especially with low mintage British coins. Probably best I stick to bullion!
  12. Annnnnd my money goes back in the wallet! Here's me thinking I'm collecting Pokemon. Cheers, James 👍
  13. Hi! Someone I know has a British, 1 ounce gold proof lunar year of the monkey coin. He showed it me today and it's in mint condition from box to coin but has one special feature; it is #01 on the COA. I don't have a number 1 of anything so I'm really tempted as a future investment even though he's asking for over double the gold value. I think I'm going to go for it but first thought it'd be worth asking you guys if you think it's worth that kind of premium for the first coin of its type. It seems to be a sought-after coin anyhow (judging from what it's selling for on some dealer's websites) and there were only 888 minted as far as I'm aware: https://www.bullionbypost.co.uk/royal-mint-proof-collections/proof-royal-mint-lunar-series/2016-Royal-Mint-1oz-Year-of-the-Monkey-Proof-Gold-Coin-Boxed/ Would you say yay or nay? Cheers!
  14. Good price and a lovely coin. Would have gone for this myself had I not been skint. Good luck with the sale 👍
  15. What a palaver! Sorry to read about this @Midasfrog It may be a blessing that the return was sent to another address as you now have a couple of unrelated/neutral witnesses if it gets that far. The postman having trouble scanning it and the recipients confirming it was just a Christmas card if asked. Best of luck!
  16. Cheers, James! 👍 I will indeed purchase one of these if still available. I'll send a PM now.
  17. Well said! I imagine you already know but for those that don't; Leopold II was a first cousin of Queen Victoria. £290!
  18. Nope! It's a fair shout but at least it was secondary school, unlike the 2005 which was clearly a primary school effort.
  19. Received these today, thanks to @DuncanWylieWilson - even supplied in Quadrum capsules!
  20. Thanks for the good wishes! I wasn't even planning on buying a coin this evening and came on just to see if there was any banter to be had..
