  1. Off topic slightly, but I'm already hyped for the next one. Am I right in thinking it'll be the Gothic Crown? If so, when is that due? Need to start selling the kids toys and clothes to save up for it 😂
  2. that's a matter of opinion. If this is the last sovereign to feature Elizabeth, I believe it will end up becoming more valuable and sought after. But like yours, mine is just an opinion as well
  3. the que numbers are a bit odd. I joined at 8.40am and I'm approx 80th in the que, but people a couple of mins behind me are in the thousands
  4. Yep, so glad I did. Price was guaranteed and 100% sure I could shift it if I didn't like the design, although I personally plan on adding this to my others in my main collection to keep for the long term. Clive has been excellent in his comms, so no complaints from me at all
  5. This post has all but convinced me to buy this sov. Having a piece of history that you can hand to your family in years to come will be something that only a few thousand people can say about these particular sovs. I'm hoping the significance and difference in design make for them being sought after in the future as well. Any views on whether to get the single sov vs the 3 Coin set? I'm tempted by both tbh and my gut tells me the single sov might be the better option.... Although don't ask me why!
  6. Really helpful, thanks. Why not press refresh? Usually that helps in terms of letting you know when the content of the page changes. Without pressing refresh are you crossing fingers hoping that the que numbers appear at 9am? Is it worth joining the website early? I have collected in other areas before and on one occasion was logged on for about 4hrs before the release. It was painful as you had to do a simple maths problem (eg,2+3) every 10 mins otherwise you were kicked from the que. Worth it in the end, but painful at the time
  7. Apologies if this has been covered, but is it pure luck whether you buy one or not? How does it actually work on the day of release, is it just a case of hitting refresh, adding to the basket and trying to check out on record time, hoping that they will honour your order? I'm keen, but just wanted to know the process
  8. Hi all, I've just received an 1872 young head shield sov from the most recent TCC auction. I always have a quick look for detail and errors and happened to find this overstrike on the die number. Is this common? I don't expect it will do anything in respect of the value, but it would be nice to know for sure
  9. I've been looking at saleroom and the add on fees are definitely worth flagging. My local auction is 3 miles away, but there is a 27% charge on top of the auction price. So a £500 chain will cost you an extra £135. That's quite a chunk on top of the price and whilst I accept its common practice, it's bloomin extortionate in my opinion
  10. Great, thanks both. Half of the issue is trusting where I'm buying from. I trust most on here as its a great community and I've had nothing but help and good experiences from everyone. I despise eBay for reasons obvious to most and I don't really know other places to trust outside of that! I'll take a look at the sale room, but if anyone else can recommend or suggest places to consider, please let me know. Thanks
  11. Hi all, I'm after buying a chain as a gift, probably 22" or so. I don't mind if it's 9ct, 14ct or 18ct, but what I would like is for the chain to be as close to spot price as possible. I'm realistic on this ie the mark ups are high. I have looked at auctioneers but I can't seem to find any that specialise in gold chains. I'm not against them, but my searching hasn't come up with anything worth looking at so far. Can anyone recommend any online jewellers? My budget is no more than £500 as its a gift. Thanks in advance
  12. Thanks Dave, pragmatic view as ever. In any event, it's a lovely design
  13. Thanks for your reply. I have only just started looking at collecting coins (as oppose to stacking) so I don't yet understand all of the variables that make a coin or set an attractive proposition from an investment perspective
  14. Hi all, I've scoured the pages, but can't seem to find the answer, but can anyone comment on their view of how the set might do in terms of value? The sets are limited to only 500 which makes me feel they are worth the investment, but you can buy ungraded for £1300 at the moment

    1989 half sov

Pretty sure the full sov that was on TCC auction went for £2100 today. That's overpriced in my opinion, but £1800 might be ok. £1500-£1700 is ideal. I'm after one myself if anyone is selling
  16. It's a fairly good book but you'll find it just points out the different varieties, errors, overstrikes etc... You also get a price guide which I was using as a rough guide. It doesn't really help with price if I'm honest. It's helped in terms of knowing mint numbers and for finding varieties I like, but that's it

    Bit of advice

It's all a risk and if you don't know what you're doing, it's an even bigger risk. If you want to do stocks and shares, have you considered Nutmeg? I put £200 per month into them and last years return was 24% with my risk appetite at 8 out of 10. I also buy the odd bit of silver, gold, crypto and single stocks. Spread it about so you spread the risk
  18. Yep, I gave up after it was going to cost me several fees to buy KVT. One of the cheaper options for depositing is via Revolut who charge $10. I worked out it was going to cost over £35 for the purchase and pulled out.
