  1. Literally not been on this forum since sinking a wedge into memorial and jubilee sovs. Popped on yesterday to see what was going on and next thing I know, I've bought a gold chain from @Leonmarsh (albeit for a good price) and now I've just bought 2x 5g bars, which I don't like, but couldn't resist at the spot price! What the actual F! 😂 I'm £1k down just because I popped in to say hi
  2. £6.85 online pricing. I'm not Carol Vorderman, but that's £1 short. I'll pay it.
  3. I feel bad for being stingy on the 85p, so let's go all in and say £450 plus the £5.85 RMSD
  4. How much is postage Leon? £5.85 RMSD, so will you be happy with a straight £455?
  5. It depends what you'd sell tbh. I'm glad I asked the questions as I'm now convinced the coronation coins are just as important as the platinum and memorial. I also bought the SOTD and I'm awaiting it being graded, but it all depends on how important you view it in your collection. If you have to sell run of the mill sovs to get this it's a no brainer but I would think twice if it were something more notable
  6. I think the 5 sov BU is a good shout as the mintage is low. I also think the 4 coin set is good, but only if it's kept together as otherwise the mintage of each coin make individual pieces less desirable.
  7. I got the platinum jubilee 3 Coin set, the memorial 5 coin set and the coronation 4 coin set. I only graded the 5 set as I wanted the 5 sov in top grade, but happy to leave the others raw. I've been collecting a few years and don't plan selling any of them tbh. If I need the money I'll cash them in when I need to, but if I don't need the money I expect they will all go to my only child and his kids (if/when he has them). I like collecting because they are small pieces of history and it's nice to reflect back and remember as I get older. I'm just interested if the crown will be repeated as I tend not to buy run of the mill sovs. I keep promising myself an 1817 but most of what I had set aside went on the 4 coin set. If/when I get an 1817 I think that'll be me until a change of monarch.
  8. Good to know... Thanks. I was thinking of sending my 4 coin set back because I don't care much for standard releases, but it makes them more special with the crown so I might have convinced myself they are worth it.
  9. Does anyone know if future sovs will have the crown or not?
  10. I felt the same with the 4 coin set. I took money out of my savings to buy it as it's just another way of saving money under a diversified portfolio. I just can't work out whether to keep the 2.5k and put it towards something older (like an 1817) or keep them because they will likely hold their value if subsequent sets are minted without Charles wearing a crown.
  11. Can I just clarify that it's the two horizontal marks on the rear area of the neck, and the marks next to the eye that are the issue? That alone is unacceptable, but wanted to check. Similarly, is it the fine hairline coming out of the curve of the tail? The obvious material next to the torso isn't such a concern as it can be removed with conservation. I received my 4 coin set today and can't find any dinks or scratches. There are couple of residue marks and an area on the quarter that looks like it has a fine hair on it, but overall I'm pretty happy.
  12. I think you could've worked out I was referring to the sets when I used those words. My point is that complete sets are harder to come by when they are in a much lower number of production than others. That's what makes them more rare and or sought after
  13. Good point. I never split the sets that I buy as I believe they're more valuable as a set than separately. For that reason I think I'll buy the 4 coin set as complete sets might be sought after in years to come.
  14. I paid ~£155 but I did the paperwork myself, dropped off and collected from the London office. I'd highly advise using someone like Dave if you don't know what you're doing though.
  15. Not sure if this was meant in response to my question, but your point is exactly what I meant. When I said low numbers, I meant mintage figures, not serial numbers. At only 575 minted, it's the lowest number of minted coins or sets.
  16. Completely agree... And the low mintage of these makes them more attractive than everything apart from the 5 and 4 coin sets imo
  17. Didn't bother this morning. I suspect a few are skint after the memorial and jubilee. I'm slightly tempted by the 4 coin set simply because of the low numbers. The whole thing is just a best guess at this stage, but the value of this entire range would shoot up if, say for instance, the King passed away suddenly. For me, the winners are in the low montages, but I'd be interested in hearing views about whether the 4 coin set looks worth a punt.
  18. I can't disagree with your views Paul - just as plausible if not more convincing. I do keep promising myself an 1817 sov and a William IV. Both would come with high premiums, but I wonder whether I could get both for the £3k I'm thinking of sinking into the £5 BU? Food for thoight
  19. Torn and can't decide about the upcoming coronation set for the reasons mentioned. If I was tempted, I'd be aiming at either the £5 piece because of the low mintage, or the 4 coin set because it's limited to certain members. I think the sets will appreciate over time, but do I think they will stand the test of time? Not particularly. History tells us one story, but the world is a different place and everything is so accessible with the Web at your fingertips. The premiums for older coins are not just because of their mark in history - in my opinion, the circumstances also make them more attractive and bump the premium. There was no Internet and likely no returns process, so you got what you got and the collector pool was miniscule in comparison to today's market. When you take those two things alone into consideration, you can appreciate the premiums applied to decently graded coins from those eras. Like I said, I think they will appreciate, but the higher mintages will also be easy to acquire on numerous market places and Auction sites. For me, the key is going to be in the mintage numbers irrespective of what people think about coins now eg, the 5 piece BU doesn't get hyped to the same degree as the sets and proofs, but they are impressive in the hand and at 650 minted, they might be worth the £1k premium.
  20. Bought my 1989 70 for £1870 over 12 months ago. I wouldn't sell it, but if I was, I wouldn't be looking at any less than £2k. I've not seen any selling as low as £1800
  21. Only remembered about the release this morning when I got a reminder on my phone. Joined the que using my mobile and was waiting at around 8500 in line when it opened. I landed on the site a few mins later and bagged a SOTD which I'll be chuffed to bits with if it gets here. I personally find SOTD the most collectable coins as they are literally a piece of history, never to be repeated or restruck. Grabbing one (if you can) is a no brainer.
