I had never tried to sell crypto before and I was shocked by how much of a pain it was. The TL:DR is it would take me 2 weeks to pass KYC/AML as a seller and it would have cost 3% inclusive of all fees for me to cash out to my bank account. There's also a large complication with many crypto exchanges if you didn't originally purchase the crypto from that exchange. I had already passed KYC/AML as a buyer and I couldn't be bothered with how intrusive the process was for selling so whatever, I was fine paying 8% as that particular BTC unexpectedly came into my possession and I wanted rid of it
Chards charge 1% as far as I can see and APMEX charge a shade over 1% for crypto payments
I guess it depends on the seller's view on crypto and their transaction costs
Worth noting also that a number of UK banks have frozen customer accounts if they received any payments from crypto exchanges

I'm happy to sell for BTC as long as you cover transfer fees. There will be a bit of a premium on my side though but it's something manageable we can also negotiate. It also seems like other sellers are interested so if my rates seem unfair you're more than happy to go with other users. We've dealt in the past, and hopefully we can deal again!  
Let us know what type of gold and silver you're looking for. If you're going for the best deals, I've got some reasonably priced 50% and 92.5% UK/British silver coins in bulk, some gold here and there. Just give me a shout if interested, and we'll see what we can work out.
Bullion dealers are also a good option, but you may have to go through KYC for orders over $3000 USD especially if these websites use BitPay, as BitPay (used to) request KYC for purchases over $3000 USD. But no price or KYC process is too much when guaranteeing peace of mind and reliability 
EDIT: Fees are lower with LiteCoin and I'm willing to do better prices if you can get it exchanged for LTC.

@ArgentSmith, do you have an idea/solution to reduce said premiums? 
I'd like to see it proven that BTC can be used to purchase 'money', without a huge loss.

This is just anecdotal and not a rule to follow - I paid £412 equivalent for a sov using BTC when the same sov was going for around £380, so I paid an 8% premium using crypto.
