Sending Silver to Australia

Is this a new thing? Because I've sent silver to @Oddjob and just filled in a cn22 for as souvenir ( obviously buyer was comfortable with the risk)

If you've sent as souvenir on customs and not said it's preciouse metals then if it's not stopped at customs your fine. But if it was stopped and checked would be pulled and confiscated

I've done it through royal mail twice with no issues but it's weird cause PMs are on Australia's restricted import list, so it's good to read this. Don't think I'll risk it again.

Yep one of the very few countries I don't ship to

Very new thing. Nothing to do with customs purely Australia post suddenly decided not to carry jewellery anymore. .. which means Royal Mail won’t, or try not to as this is who they use and the post office will tell you this. (Even some $5 fashion jewellery for a Bday present was rejected !) unfortunately we don’t have anything like SD and Australia post won’t track even if you ask for it (Covid measure 🤣).

Royal Mint/chards etc  have no issue sending and it gets delivered via Australia post so I assume they can due to private insurance 🤷‍♂️

people get confused between the carrier rules and customs… it’s bloody annoying.  It’s simply because Australia post is a croc of $&@&. They actively want to send this business to the private companies.

You can send anything (legal) tax free to Australia with no duty to pay up to $1000. Even over this bullion silver and 24ct gold is tax free but you may have to argue the point with border force depending on the day.

I have no problem getting silver and bullion sovs in, declared properly,   (Investment gold coin 71189000, or numismatic item)but I do keep it below $1000 (£550 ish) . I don’t for instance risk sending proof sovs. I use dhl or dpd.

Nb. any poured silver will not be classed as bullion but are easily importable if below $1000aud. @RiverbankSilver@arphethean @LiquidMetalsUK    Please keep sending Pms to your customers in Australia!

Last 2 I have sent have been seized so  unfortunately won't be sending their anymore as im to nice and even though stated at their risk I've ended up refunding .(My reputation is far more important than few quid)  Was only small orders of a couple hundred so not the end of the world but I've learned my lesson.

Why on earth did they seize them? I get 10oz silvers  in with no problem and it’s 100% allowed. Even if they were seized by customs the buyer should enable to sort no problem in time. There’s no restriction on precious metals under the $1000 aid mark. 1oz gold coins I’ve also had with no issue , again all properly declared. When I buy from the forum I tend to get it delivered in uk just for ease.

No idea but were unable to retrieve the goods. Just my personal preference not to send the this particular destination any more.

Yeah fair enough mate… but there’s literally no reason for customs to seize silver. Esp lower value and declared correctly. Something dodge going on there.
I’ve never had any problem.. but like I say I usual send it to myself. But worrying if more parcels are going to be picked up.
