1887 Crown - Cleaned?

Cleaned or not? Was hoping to upgrade from my low AU example, but am now doubtful, as many hairlines.

But the scratches on the cheek would give it a details grade anyway I suspect

Quite possibly cleaned, but it's still a good looking coin.  Perhaps not in a condition where you'd bother to get it graded, but if it's not too expensive it's still a nice example.  All the details still visible, and none of the marks are really ugly.  Unfortunately I'm not an expert on antique silver so I couldn't give an informed view on what it's worth.

Looks cleaned to me, the fields and Victoria’s cheek all micro scratches in the same direction.

Are those marks as visible when just holding the coin in hand or has the photo highlighted them? Without those marks it would be a very nice looking coin and if you’re into grading would grade well. Personally would have left it.

Your quality photo shows it is cleaned. A poor photo one might not pick up on it. So if you want to sell it at a good price , take a rubbish photo lol

You have a point, as the scratches were not visible on the advert photo.

In fairness the seller has agreed to a return, as I only purchased with grading in mind.

It's a very good looking coin, especially i like details of St George, however if solely for grading purpose, it's another matter.

With those comments I would send it back and keep looking. Someone has previously liked it but unfortunately thought it would look better cleaned! Chances are it turned up with a lot of dirt on it🤔

Lovely one also.  I always prefer old silver coin with some toning, but that's my preference only.
