Royal Mint gold sixpence

Just had a quick look at the latest (2022) gold proof sixpence on the RM website - for sale at £475. The 2021 sixpence is £345.

Same coin, same amount of gold (5.59 grams of 22k) yet £130 price difference.  I know that originally the 2021 was priced at £315 and then increased to £475 only to drop down to the current price.

Really odd pricing and an indicator to me that the premiums on these coins are pretty much made up and not based on any set profit margins.

Arse and elbow spring to mind 😁

Valid point about the wedding gifts - by that logic though all the 2021 dated coins and items that could be used as gifts should also be reduced (bookmarks, baby rattles, silver pennies, year sets - everything under the heading Gifts).

To be honest i've not monitored other stuff on the website but this example, to me, is an eye opener on RM pricing.

Hold on, if you search under 'Wedding Gifts' the 2021 gold sixpence is priced at £345 - search under 'Sixpence' and it's £475.

Makes me wonder if other coins may also have different prices under different search headings. Bizarre (and potentially profitable if someone has a bit of time on their hands - not me though, i'm off to the pub).😁

I believe the weight of the two gold sixpences in question is different. I have no idea why this would be as you would have thought a gold sixpence is a gold sixpence! 😊

It’s both the weight and the purity. I think they made the wedding sixpence a bit more rose gold, compared to the Christmas sixpence which is yellow gold.
