Our tame photographer Doug is not just a pretty face, but a valued contributor to the team effort.

Along with photos of this 2022 Australian Silver $1 One Ounce Kookaburra by Perth Mint:

He awarded it our Best Font on a Coin FOTY Font Of The Year trophy:

The reverse was more standard:

Any other contenders?

That font and edge weighting looks like Hello Paris, with everything lowercase apart from the initial K.

As for a contender, my choice may seem boring: I like the font, simplicity and spacing of "C A N A D A" at the top of the classic Canada Silver Maple Leaf.

(no picture as I don't have one to hand - would inserting a Chards image be fair use?)

I agree with Doug, but I understand your point that CANADA is clear and simple.

The first Canadian coin photo I could find was this one:

If using a third party image, it is always good to give a credit, and a link also does no harm.

@paulmertonis right about Hello Paris as the font. When he says lowercase, it's how that font does lowercase, which is actually uppercase forms.

The Australian coin has strange kerning in the word Australia – notice the huge spacing between the first few letters, contrasted with the remaining letters.

The Gairsoppa shipreck silver rounds have one of the best fonts I've seen. It's not a coin per se, but we see a lot more privately minted rounds in the US:

A beautifully clear font!  I am not a font specialist, but like the font on FINE and GOLD but not PUR, which is rather bunched up!

Overall one of the best coin fonts I know.

Not my circus, not my monkeys
