1881 M Victorian gold sovereign???

Was having a look on Ebay and came across this sovreign that caught my eye.

Apart from the obvious color difference which I'm putting down to lighting..

I noticed a few anomalies which tells me 1. It's not the same coin and 2. Not genuine!

Compare the D : G : on both coins especially the 'D'?

The colon after 'Britanniar:  as with the      D : G : seems to infringe on the inner rim of the coin that has the silver look but not on the gold coin?

I'd like to know your opinions on this, although advertised as the same 1881 gold sovreign it looks very suspicious to me??

It's hard to be sure if they are different coins given the poor photography, but I see your points. One thing that stands out to me though is the slight misshapen rim above the N N, it looks very similar in both coins to my eye. The variances could be down to poor light, different angles and low res?

So, I just found the listing and had a good look, another resemblance that stood out in both photos is the slight depression in the rim at around 11' o clock above St Georges shoulder.

Yeah I can see your point regarding the NN.

But I can't see the lighting making any difference to the other points I said...the photos are clearer on ebay..if you use a lupe you can deffinatly see the anomalies..

The seller has good feedback but that doesn't mean much on ebay... to me it does look different...personally I wouldn't buy it,but maybe I also need glasses.

I would steer well clear…text and stops look off too, far to bold, never mind they’re all over the place. The inner rim seems to be dodging every letter too.

You'd be surprised at what a change of light and aperture can do to an image. I 'm not saying you are wrong but I'm not sure you are right either regarding it not being the same coin. As to whether it's fake, it could well be, as another poster stated the lettering does seem a bit bold. If I was interested in buying it I would ask for another picture.

The seller also has quite a few coins for sale and very good feedback, I doubt they would knowingly sell a fake, although, he does'n't have a photo of this one on a scale!

I always value other members opinions...its one of those is it? Isn't it? But does appear abit iffy..🤔

it's the same coin. Dark mark in Victoria's hair, scratch next to the nostril and the depression as seen by Cosmik.
