This forum has a buy and sell section. All the best buys I've made in silver were on that sub forum.

I think you can get fleeced on eBay because it's tempting to deviate from your buying strategy and you end up with unsellable stuff/over priced stuff

You can only avoid the VAT by buying privately and not from a VAT registered business.
Some dealers will on rare occasions sell secondhand silver on their margin scheme or claim zero VAT but you will not find their silver 20% cheaper so a bit of a marketing con.
You can still buy zero VAT or low VAT in the EU but you will pay VAT on importation plus additional fees that work out expensive for a low value purchase.
This forum is the best place for deals but if you are not a premium member you will miss the best ones which will be sold before you even knew they existed.

I pick up good deals on Facebook groups. It is around the same price as on here but you need to be a bit more vigilant. There is a chap there that sends from Canada and it doesn’t get pinged for vat.

I'm looking for Pre Owned bars to avoid the vat. Anything from ounces to 500g can you help. Online sites like bullion by post etc still charge vat on preowned so government gets double vat. Think its wrong. Thanks

Often the premium that is charged on special margin scheme  outweighs the VAT saving.
