Security vs Enjoying your collection?

Ok so i am a newbie and don't even have a collection yet (just one coin! lol)

But already i see a catch 22 situation in collecting precious metals, there so beautiful and pretty its such a shame to hide them and not tell anyone about them?

Now don't get me wrong i know it would be daft to tell everyone and say "come over and see my collection of gold and silver later".I am merely curious on you guys that been collecting/stacking for years on how you deal with "keep it secret, keep it safe" (thankyou Gandalf) and at the same time enjoying your collection of shiny coins. There is a small part of me that would love one day to have say a set of coins (Pandas, as a hypothetical example) and have them on display in a case with led lights and looking shiny and appealing in my lounge to enjoy my shiny set every day, as opposed to hidden away in a secret hole etc and never shown the shiny set to anybody.

It already seems a catch 22 before i get started! How do you enjoy your collections if there hidden away? Just interested in curious discussion..

That's the beauty of the fridge safe.

Invite your mates around for a beer, show off your silver and hand round the lettuce and cucumber sandwiches.

Simples. ;)

Technically, alcohol is a solution..

Personal freedom and economic freedom are indivisible. You can’t have one without the other. You can’t lose one without losing the other.'

Most of my gold is locked away and costs me a little under 0.5%/year to rent a safe deposit box. This does mean I rarely get to enjoy them but to compensate, I have a couple of fondling coins kicking about.

The bulk of my silver is also in locked away but is just a storage unit and is hidden with my business stock. It is fairly secure but a safe deposit box for silver is uneconomical due to the bulk. Like with gold, I do have a few silver pieces kicking about namely some Chinese pieces.

The first rule of stacking club is no one talks about stacking club!

It's a reason why forums and youtube channels are popular.  They give people an outlet to show off their collections with little risk.

That makes sense, as i watched so many videos now its incredible how many on Youtube.

Not to hijack but related to to this topic-

As a relative newbie myself does anyone who stores at home declade their stack to their home insurance provider?

@Rich99 We once had an insurance group pop up on the board who said that they had separate cover for coin collections.  I think the conclusion we came to is that they would need to be at least a named item with insurance and not just in the general household contents.

I 'enjoy my collection' by enjoying the security.

I check a couple times a year that it is still there but 'treasure' is best left undisturbed. Of course, 'checking' involves scuba gear, with it all being at the bottom of the sea, what with that boating accident and all.

Where do you get the coin stands from?

I bought mine from http://www.air-tites.com/ while making an order.  There a few eBay sellers with them and they come in a few sizes.

@Rich99For what it is worth, I insure with Churchill who allow "valuables" (coins, gold, silver, jewellery etc) to be up to 30% of the insured house contents value, so I just increase the contents value to suit and don't need to declare anything specific. The fewer who know the better

I do like the idea of a couple of "Fondling Coins" though..

My fondling coins which I have on top of my monitor.

Sovereign - 1/4oz in size and is so common

$20 Double Eagle - Nice and chunky, historic and .900 means its quite resilient to drops :o

2oz Scottsdale Stacker - Because it's different

Maple - was originally milk spotted and my first fondler.

£20 George Dragon - Just because it's a "£20" coin.

Austrian 4 Ducat - For it's frisbee likeness

There's also a 100g Silver Metalor bar which moves about on my desk.
