Hi im Martin I have only just yesterday  got into silver. My daughter's birthdays are coming up and I wanted to give them some way of saving for the future, that they couldn't dip in to for a can of monster from the one stop. We have always lived pretty much hand to mouth so have had to start very small. (Laughingly small) with 4 pre 1920 sixpences and 6 valcambi 1g bars. I'm aware that I have probably paid way too much but I had to start somewhere.

Wishing you all the best and I'm looking forwards to learning from you.

My daughter saves in silver, though she sounds quite a bit younger than yours. One of the best approaches you can take is to save your cash until you have a good amount (that might even be just £100) then buy as many 1toz coins as you can. The more you buy at once, the less it's going to cost you. Then you can hand out coins from a small supply you have. Doing it piecemeal also means you get an excuse/opportunity to impart some advice and knowledge about hard money… which is maybe more important than the metal itself.

Welcome to the forum Martin

Nothing annoying about being a newbie... we all started somewhere and given the breadth of this hobby we're all still constantly learning.

You're doing well with the 6 pences I'd say. Older silver content coins are a great way to get in to this on a budget. There are deals that come up regularly on here at spot price so be worth keeping an eye out!
