If you ever strongly feel negative about any of your items, send to me and I'll test for free. You just cover postage. Honestly though I've used ATS dozens of times and never a problem.

Whilst you can buy gadgets, do water tests, ping tests etc I would strongly advise that the first and most important test is via the Mk1 Eyeball.  Loupe, Microscope etc against reference coins and use a load of learning that you accumulate.

Good dealers like ATS won’t screw their reputation by selling you some counterfeit tat from a Turkish melt house, but it’s always worth checking without being paranoid about fakes from main dealers
You say you don’t buy P2P - you might want to just have a look at TSF vs dealers.  There are some v good dealers but equally I know several people here who have bought counterfeits from dealers you would think you might be able to trust.

When buying from established members ( good strong feedback) your not just buying a piece of metal, but also their experience.
Tbh I haven't seen many ( can count on two hands ) fakes on here, and they've been flagged instantly by experienced members.
Grab a membership and get stuck in..you will ultimately save a small fortune and learn a ton.

Is there a reason you have started to worry?
There are fake sovereigns out there but they are thin on the ground and dealers will spot the majority that pass through their hands and they will just go in the melting pot
A lot of new stackers get the same concern at some point or another, I did myself.  These days I do not worry about it at all and I would not buy a sigma as I would rather spend the money on more gold.  I do not buy US coins as they are faked quite widely.  I also do not buy bars from places like the perth mint as again a lot of fakes.  But every sovereign I know of that is a fake is still made of gold, and generally at least 21ct but sometimes up to 23ct gold.  If you get a fake, just weight it in.  You may lost a few quid but at the moment with stuff selling at spot the loss would be tiny.
I weigh my coins on some scales that cost me £25 off Amazon, if you get some just make sure you can calibrate them.  I buy older coins mostly so they can be slightly underweight but I know the tolerance and generally know roughly what a coin is going to come out to just based on the wear.  I have some precision callipers too but rarely ever use them, I think maybe 3 times in the years I have had them.  You can also do a gravity test with a jug of water and some scales for an extra check.
Regarding ATS, they are reputable and can be reasonably priced.  No dealer is infallible though, so always worth doing your own due diligence

ATS should not be a problem - I have had no problem with them.
That said, I check carefully whatever I buy.

I would recommend buying from here over most online bullion dealers for a lot of items. You will occasionally find something that makes sense, but often with a "wanted" ad on here someone will often have the same thing for a better price.
Just about to list a fair few bullion britannia's myself for £25 each, would be hard to find anything for that price from a dealer. But you will find many deals similar here
Definitely recommend the membership if you plan to make purchases.

I would not bother, you are more likely to get it cheaper off this forum.  Your best bet is to pay a £1 and sign up to a month silver membership. you will get to see all the listings instantly rather then having to wait three days

Nothing to worry about, they are good bullion dealers. I very much doubt that you get fakes from them

The most competitive dealer price right now for standard bullion 1 oz Gold coin is Tavex Bullion spread above spot at 4.54%. You divide the spread in 2 = 2.27% sell above spot plus postage = £1571.51
    https://tavexbullion.co.uk/gold/1-oz-britannia-gold-coin-2023/
As a seller you would obtain better price than if you would sell to a dealer (I believe Chards paying the best dealer price) currently £1541
    https://www.chards.co.uk/blog/sell-gold-britannia-coins/275
and offer the incentive to the buyer purchase from yourself more at reasonable percentage above spot. This would be the price I would be willing to buy if I was in the market right now and the price I would be willing to sell if I was a seller which is a fair price for both buyer/seller.

    Morning.
Whether or not you should sell depends on your plan for stacking or collecting. If you need the money for something else and selling some of your gold is the way to do it then you've got to do what you've got to do...
As for an asking price spot is £ 1547 as I type. You'll want to sell above this by a few % but below the best dealers price that has stock, assuming coin is in nice condition.
If you price too high nobody will buy it but you can always lower the price gradually after a few days if needed. Price on the low side it will be bought likely within the hour on here.
For eg... I can get a 1 Oz gold Britannia 2023 from Tavex at £1620 delivered. If you price the same then I'm just going to go to the dealer with a good reputation built up over years instead of taking a risk with a relatively unknown member on the forum. Some members will perhaps take the risk over £10 some £30 and some just wouldn't but hopefully this gives you what you need to make a reasonable decision

I buy from reputable online bullion dealers, so no issues with fakes.  Also I typically  purchase current year mintage bullion, so the likelihood of fakes is greatly reduced because they are BU straight from the bullion wholesaler or the Royal Canadian Mint.  And since I have testing equipment, I always independently verify all my purchases to confirm authenticity.

You do not have to buy one. Build a relationship with one of your local coin shops which has such XRF machine or equivalent and take your coins to them to scan them for you for free (that what I do)😉. And if your local coin shop does not have such machine, then your next option would be a jewelry shop (most of them have those XRF machines because they buy lots of jewelry from customers, and I'm sure they will be happy to examine your coins for a small fee).

Yes, I heard many times that people got fake silver from dealers.
This could happen if the dealer bought bulk coins from a customer without inspecting them (especially online dealers with staff who do not know anything about precious metals).
Keep in mind there is a difference between a fake coin and a counterfeit coin. For example somebody can fake a US 1889-CC Morgan dollar (same percentage of silver and weight like the original Morgan dollar) so melt value is the same but not the Numismatic value. A dealer can have an XRF machine to inspect the metal contents of that coin but if the dealer does not have experience he/she would not know if the coin is genuine or not because they only rely on the XRF machine to know if it was silver or not.
PCGS and NGC are the companies who would tell you if the coin is genuine or not or an experienced reputable dealer who you trust.

The only fake I ever got was from Ebay
The guy sold me a (1oz Silver Funnel Web Spider)
Got it delivered, as soon as i took it out of the cap I knew it was fake, the weight was off, weighed it and sure enough 28grams
Slide test it fell of my slider quicker than Leicester got beat of Forest the other day
Contacted him and he sent my money straight back and asked me to destroy it and told me it had 'slipped through' his checks
Low and behold he was still selling this c**p for weeks
I kept it to show my family the differences and to this day I have still not bought myself a legit funnel web...
Dealers though are different, Id say most if not all are reputable even though we have since discovered some chuck loads on the premium (shh, dont mention it) but we knew that anyway (at least most of us do) 🤣
