vand got a reaction from Ushao in Goal - Financial Independence In Ten Years
Great thread. Everyone wants financial independence and I have a similar goal, but that doesn't mean I won't continue to work as I believe work fulfills an important human requirement.
Firstly, I agree with your views on property. That goose is dead, and when (not if) the crash comes, many overleveraged people will be wiped out and the accompanying economic recession will be much worse than 2008-09. That said, I do believe that eventually owning your own home at a sensible price (ideally around x200 gross rent) is an important part of becoming financially independent, but those sort of prices wont return until there is a violent price reset.

I also agree that, unless you are VERY savvy, PMs are likely not the way to future prosperity. Of course, some of many of us discussing this are trying to get to that "very savvy" pointy end, but you have to be very contrarian to do so, and I'm not sure that we are at that stage of the commodities market these days as we were in 2000-2002. PMs main role is to preserve purchasing power, which is not the same as building wealth. There may be, indeed surely will be, a time where PMs have their moment in the sun and offer the chance of a big return, but for the most part it is "insurance".
The rules of building wealth are simple (but not easy):
    -maximize your earnings
    -minimize your expenditures
-invest wisely in proven sustainable, wealth-building assets when they are attractively priced
-diversify to spread your risk around, but only as much as you need and only invest in what you understand
-avoid chasing a fast buck and making mistakes which can wipe out your capital. A 10% loss just needs a 11% rise to recover, a 90% loss needs a 1000% rise to return.
Most of the time none of this comes easy or quickly, and in today's environment cheap money has inflated every asset price (except commodities) so your choices are limited. But if making money was easy then more people would be rich!
I also think that setting a time frame for such "blue sky" goals is not a good idea. Maximize your own potential and focus on smaller deliverables. See where you are in 2 years time. Most of us are seeking the same goals and working a lifetime to get there!

Bitcoin and its copies are in the manic stage at the moment, fortunes are being made and lost and when all is said and done, there will be another crypto currency to buy. Bitcoins market share of the crypto market has collapsed in the last couple months, due to the parabolic price rises of its competitor currencies. It seems that while you can't print bitcoin, you can achieve the same effect by marketing a new crypto currency. But who care so long as the price keeps going up. Demand for bitcoins and its copies appears insatiable. If the next pullback is hard enough I think I will join the fun for the next wave, so long as sentiment has not been too badly damaged.
Meanwhile commodities have been falling mostly across the board. No one wants real stuff and recession is on its way, we are overdue one.

As a stacker I tend to overlook the premium series, but I just scooped some absolute bargains from Celticgold who seemed to be flogging Lunar 2 goats like they were going out of fashion
    I got -

    Lunar II Goat 2oz Silver Coin 2015 @ 37.27EUR
    Lunar II Goat 1/2oz Silver Coin 2015 @ 9.70EUR
    Lunar II Goat 5oz Silver Coin 2015 @ 93.86EUR
I think I completely cleaned them out of available stock at those prices

Increasing my buying as the price drops.. added 20oz of Kooks & Libertads at an average of 16% above spot.
If prices stay this low or even lower over the summer I'm happy to continue buying heavily.

Personally I'm completely indifferent about short term price movements from a stacking point of view, but I can see how it's frustrating if you have just bought, only to see it tank further. I think one of the steps in becoming a mature stacker is to just take it in your stride and know that volatility works to help you accumulate more ounces for your money, even if it means that plenty of your buys will seem ill-timed over a short time period.

As I keep emphasizing, trying to pin new events to price action is a futile practice. The price make the headlines, not vice versa! Escalating price = more worry = somewhere someone prints something about an international crisis. The truth is that many events are happening in the world; some make the headlines, most do not until public sentiment triggers it.

$1290 is the key level that needs to be taken out for confirmation of the end of the long term bear market.

Yes, but that doesn't mean there isn't a huge paper market also which, for the most part, is what determines the price. We live in hope that one day the physical markt will reassert itself, but when that day comes it will be impossible to buy any more physical anyway.

Bought 22oz of silver and 0.5oz of gold yesterday.
According to The 'sheet, this should take me to 934oz of silver and 1.5oz of gold respectively.
Nice to have a bit more gold for diversity which is why I'm buying more, but I still think silver will outperform over the next few years.

My stack is 27 ounces larger as of today. Noticeably cheaper than a few weeks ago! I was planning to make the purchase in the last week of this month, but I thought the price was very oversold and so brought it forward.
Cheltenham Festival is next week - hoping to make at least enough money to buy another similar sized batch :-)

I think the Fed had pretty much confirmed that interest rates in the states were going to rise in the next 2-3 weeks. This normally means a drop in PM's are vise versa when interest rates go down. I think so anyway.
I got my order in last night, 30 oz at an avg inc shipping of £19.57. Deffo my most expensive avg for a goldsilver order but 1/2 oz lunars, pandas, tailed eagles, brits, koalas, queens beast and the new owl ones. Little pissed kooks went out of stock around dinner tea but i got a few panda trays for kooks and koalas to ease the pain. My next order will be cheaper per oz

Indeed.. looking back at the charts, Silver in GBP was only higher than the current price for about 42 trading days all of last year.
A lot of that is due to ongoing GBP weakness, but silver is doing very everywhere well considering how much strength the USD is showing. This time last year the GSR was hitting 83:1, and today it has just dipped to 67:1, so silver has also gained 23% against gold in the last year.

    £14.80 now.
Just about back to the election night level.
I think there's room for silver to run up another £1-2/oz very quickly, as we have not seen it outperform gold yet as it normally does when prices get a little carried away, and miners still have a lot of upside potential.

i didn't buy these today but i ordered the little gems (in the making) very recently.
I supplied my own silver coins - 5 x milky coins for the two hearts and then got the Baby Dragon to boot!
Tremendous work - not complete as they need polishing and stamping but tremendous work from Backyard Bullion.
