  1. I agree, it looks like a generic knock-off. The design should have been that more familiar tongue, probably. But maybe it's too copyrighted....
  2. You'll be sorry later that you didn't get one, I think. Although it might take a while to sell out 17,000 sovs... but there will surely be a high demand. I don't think for that price you can lose on this sovereign in the long term.
  3. Not Binance, the other big one (can't remember the name now).
  4. Yeah, you see? This one doesn't have the waves... exactly what I was talking about (for the 1oz obviously..)
  5. Yeah I meant the Royal Mint website, but also saw the same on Atkinson's. Who knows...we'll have to see the actual coins when they arrive. I have ordered a tube of 2023 1/4oz silver Brits, but those ones still have the old radial background, not the new security features. I wonder why not...too small? Can't be, because they do it for the 1/10 platinum too. Maybe it's too costly a modification for a tiny silver coin..
  6. Actually, I noticed on the website images that the 2023 silver 1oz Britannia did NOT have the wavey background on the reverse...am I wrong or not? The gold still looks similar.
  7. Kwasi Kwarteng will have to fall on his sword.
  8. Who buys them? People who don't know about The Silver Forum!
  9. Low demand, as others have said. However, at that price it's even cheaper than some bullion 1/4 ounce coins. They're essentially selling it as bullion. It's definitely good for stacking as those proof coins are quite pretty. I have a The Who one, same story. Won't have it graded but it's among my quarter ounce bullion pile. And I mean minty bullion..
  10. Yes I heard he is now the Prince of Wales, and his wife the Princess of Wales, Diana's old title.
  11. Yeah, which is why the shrewd people will sell while the hype is strong and the prices high. However, I think items like the 2022 proof sovereign won't look back anytime soon, it is now and will be a £1,000+ coin.
  12. Fair enough! For my next purchase I will try to keep Chards in mind. Your prices are good.
  13. Yes we will probably see 2023 Sovereign with an already-selected Charles portrait in the proof release in November. Surely the RM has been preparing for this for a while already. I noticed a large queue on the Royal Mint website, a lot of people are probably buying Queen Elizabeth II coins now. Also on Atkinson's website all the relevant coins are unavailable for sale at the moment. Not so Bullion By Post.
  14. Wonderful collection! There is another one you are missing -- the 1937 George VI proof. Of course there was also a 1937 Edward VIII, but no "normal" human being can aspire to own that extremely rare coin that never made circulation
  15. I've got to try Tavex too. I will for my next purchase. I want to buy an old sovereign, like a George V. Hopefully they have some nice quality ones in stock.
  16. This 2020 BU Matt Sovereign with George III privy, looks rather attractive at £441.50, I saw graded ones of these sell at decent prices. https://www.bullionbypost.co.uk/gold-coins/full-sovereign-gold-coin/2020-gold-sovereign-brilliant-uncirculated-boxed/ Coin Connection has an MS70 for £750! https://www.thecoinconnection.co.uk/product/2020-sovereign-with-king-george-iii-privy-matte-ms70/ Damn I wish BBP paid me commission!
  17. Precisely my point, that's why I said the silver forum is so valuable to us
  18. If only we could somehow lobby the UK govt to do away with VAT on silver, then it might make sense trying to invest at this level. But currently with VAT and high premiums combined, just in order to break even the price will have to rally a lot from here. The third hurdle in the way is the fact that dealers only pay you spot when you re-sell to them. That's why places like the silver forum are so valuable to us. Easier to stick with gold, but silver is pretty and fun to stack.
  19. Very interesting! I think you should hold on to that coin
  20. 2017 gold Half Sovereign bullion, just over £196 from the Royal Mint. Looks like a mistake, it's cheaper than the general price... https://www.royalmint.com/collect/archive/2017/half-sovereign-2017-gold-coin/
  21. Yeah the 1/10oz gold came out in 2020 the first time. None last year, it's making a reappearance this year. I still have a 2020 coin in my collection. Very nice.
  22. I'm bullish on the price of precious metals, mainly the "money" ones like gold and silver. Platinum and palladium, a bit more tricky. Could go either way. However, I think one needs to balance your metal buying with your ability to maintain yourself with enough cash and food/supplies for an emergency. And, since a very inflationary situation is made worse by sanctions and a dramatic reduction in global trade, it would be wise to stock up on non-perishable food while the prices are still affordable. The price of food may go up more than the price of precious metals.
