  1. The silver spring unloaded in 2010 / 2011 and you had about 5 minutes to sell before it loaded again. Of course, at the time, most were panic buying because it was going to triple digits….
  2. Sorry, 1 oz silver only for me. Can’t justify any gold proof RM purchase currently.
  3. The RM clearly need to attract new customers, but I guess my point is, that based on current reactions, any new series / innovations will simply be seen as more overpriced tat.
  4. I agree that the Sovereign is not to be meddled with, but I can see why the RM is tempted, it's a proven winner. As for everything else, it's just a coin for the sake of a coin. Whatever the design, some people will approve, others will mock. By a distance, the most successful thing they've done recently was the Queens Beasts series, clearly aimed at the traditional coin crowd (old fogeys). Personally, I love the British Monarchs series, but I seem to be in a minority. The fact is, when secondary prices don't immediately rise, people lose interest. I don't see the wisdom in trying to attract the 18-30 crowd, who are largely unable to afford such luxuries, even if they wanted them, and certainly not at the expense of existing customers. I do however look forward to the Dua Lipa 1 oz silver proof. 🙂 The market for modern proof / commemoratives has reverted to where it was for most of the past few decades - in the toilet. This is why I have sympathy with the Mint, I think it will be incredibly difficult for them in the coming years.
  5. Very much this. I do have some sympathy with the mint. As a private enterprise they need to be profitable and their primary purpose of churning out circulating coinage is now redundant. Their only options to increase sales are with bullion or commemorative issues. Without this, they go out of business.
  6. Yes, I did. Not interested in a silver sovereign. Not interested in a 12 sided coin. Not interested in different purity. etc, etc. Much prefer ‘old’ yellow gold to ‘new’ rose gold. Comment: I won’t be buying any proof / SOTD sovereign until premiums come down significantly.
  7. Sell most of my silver proofs (except for 1 oz Britannias and Monarchs). End the year with only 10 oz bars and junk silver in my bullion silver stack. Add to my graded Crowns stack. Add to my post 1899 MS64 Sovereign stack. Begin a pre-1900 MS Sovereign stack. Pick up reasonably priced RM PF70 gold. Make far fewer impulse whisky and whiskey buys (lots of buyer's remorse in this area lately). Do my 3-mile run once a week, every week - I forced myself to keep doing this until I was 50 (which I did), but have slacked a little, hurtling towards 51. Continue to eat a very low carb diet.
  8. It's tricky - if you sell a lot of items at auction, in a cooler market you will sell coins way below their expected worth. Nobody ever offers to give you more.
  9. I know it doesn’t really count, but I think the Armenian Noah’s Ark coins are produced at a private mint in Germany.

  16. Haven't looked for a while, but surprised myself when I did (I've been buying and selling since mid 2010). I have more than a hundred, but less than a thousand oz's each of both 999 silver bars / coins and all manner of junk silver coins (72% to 92.5%). My average price for the 999 is £18.63. My average price for the junk silver is £15.47. Taking into account profits from selling silver, my average cost per oz is £11.55.
  17. Royal Mile Whiskies has a few back in stock: https://www.royalmilewhiskies.com/search/?q=foursquare
  18. I think it’s a tiny pit or part of missing frosting. Difficult to tell, even under 20x magnification. While we’re pointing out minor imperfections, there are a couple of specks of missing frosting on the Charlie side, which are clearly visible if you zoom in enough. Although the coin that achieved a 70 grade also had these.
  19. Valuing this at around £1100 - £1150 currently. I have a 70 on the way and very fortunately have a spare. Who wants to swap? Looking for graded Sovereigns (proofs or bullion), other SOTD, 1/4 oz graded gold (PF70’s Royal Mint), 10 oz silver bars. Thanks Peter
