you would be surprised at how many back street pawn/gold shops would take advantage of someones greif and buy a shed load of gold at rip off prices.

Kind of dificult - impossible - to give investment advice without knowing your full circumstances, but im not really sure it’s investment advice you’re asking for - just PM advice.
Sovereigns have to be the EASIEST gold coin to shift/value. Just buy bullion sovs. If you/family are unsure of value either multiply current 1oz spot price by 0.235 OR just look on websites like atkinsons for a price.
As others have mentioned - don’t just rely on gold. Think about any debt you may have and other ways you can improve your financial position over the next 20 years.
The forum had some very knowledgeable people, and also some varying opinions - learn, and then develop your own opinion on what’s going to work for you. Good luck 👍

Friend and family are the worst. Never mix business with friends and family. You end up loosing them and the business if not carful

looks like i have some work to do to get a full date run lol. Some of my QEII duplicates are gone as i didn’t update the list. I think it’s a good little side mission though. I know someone with 200plus sovs who might swap some lol.

Yeah the date collecting is more for fun than for additional monetary gain. It wouldn't hurt to pick dates when possible if you're buying anyway... Whilst the sovs I've got are decent bullion condition if I were to sell some duplicates I'd likely keep whichever looks nicer of the dates yes.
I'm still accumulating gold but some thoughts I'd like a nice example of each monarch prior to Victoria and otherwise continue to buy best value sovs and 1 Oz Brits along with the bullion Tudor beasts. I'll pick up the remaining shields over time as and when they come up too.

Yeah the main issue I have with collecting specific years it's not adding value to my stack it's more just a bit of fun. There are definitely some troublesome mint and date combos. From here I'll likely pick up the remaining shields over time as they come up. I'd like a nice example of each monarch prior to Victoria and continue to buy best value along with the bullion Tudor beasts. 🤔

The last 2 George's I needed paid a premium for though the rest have been about best value at the going rate.
I've predominantly just bought best value but when the opportunity arises on here I've sometimes picked dates (especially recently)
Sometimes I've ignored dates because they're a bit more than I'd like to pay or a bit rough looking or simply too slow and already been sold.
Also haven't done it the most efficient way (lots of duplicates and missed opportunities) as it wasn't really my intention to do this. Started to pay a bit more attention to sovs not long ago and catalogued the dates I had and figured I was over half way

All available bullion years from Young Victoria George & Dragon reverse to today 1871 to 2022
The capsuled sovs are duplicates to show the portrait changes although I didn't show the George V small head for 1929-1932

I would like to get my full stack to 2 KG of gold. All CGT free, either full bullion sovs, brits or MIGHT start collecting the Tudor Beasts but foolishly turned my nose up at the 1st one so guessing there is premiums to be paid on that.
Not sure how realistic the target is as i have a few other non PM related goals - and all depends on what the price of not only gold but everything else does this year.

Thanks for your reply. I've been a silent member and I've been having a really good look around the forum. I am an information gatherer by nature and I research hard on any investment.
The journal I am making for my family is more like an instruction booklet. It explains as much information as possible about how to make the most out of the metals investments I have. I think an instructional paragraph about this particular forum is a wonderful option. I never thought of that, probably because of risk, I don't know.
Thanks, @Gordy for bringing that idea to the table. It could just be the answer as I know my family could navigate this site with relative ease.
Thanks again, these replies have been priceless so far.

As someone said before, i think it's precious metals advice you are after and something that's easy for your family to get their head around if you pop your clogs.
I'd go the sovs and investment bullion silver route, you may go a bit collector on slightly higher premium silver too once you get fully into it but good coins will always sell.
    avoid proofs....
for ease of passing on you could always get a member of your family who shows an interest to sit with you and navigate this site and if something does happen then leave them your pw etc and they can post questions on here and get advice on selling the stack...
no-one would let your family get ripped off..

Would recommend reading anything by Charlie Munger, Buffet ofc and Ray Dalio.
You pick up interesting tid bits over time e.g. one bit of advice that I read somewhere or other is not to invest too heavily in sectors you work in because you could both lose your job and your investments in one go ... im in tech and most of the money lost on my Sipp over the last year has been on tech stocks, ive also experience a fair bit of employment risk so it's really ringing in my ears at the moment
