We’re now two years on from this post, why does time go so fast.
So, we’re halfway ish to March 2026 and even reading some of these predictions two years later are interesting.
I am going to make one prediction and that is that two years on you’ll all be laughing (with interest) at others predictions.

Let alone the SOTD, the price of standard proof sovs is also on the march, so much so that collectors must be turning to more affordable proof half sovs.
Supply versus demand. What’s the chances of the Mint holding or slightly dropping proof sov prices if/when demand drops? Will they mint fewer?
Off topic Monarch series wise, but just joining in the recent conversation.

I think it just adds to the general feeling that the RMint is completely ambivalent towards its customers. I know it’s a large corporation, and they aren’t known for good communication and flexibility… but to just leave everyone hanging many months after a scheduled release, especially those going out of their way to ask directly , is just poor. But we are on broken record territory now.

the cost of the gold proofs for this series.. eye watering in 2022 are now not to be even thought about 🤪 surely the number of complete sets of 1oz gold will be crazy small, never mind larger.

For sure, with the gold price skyrocketing AND the RM’s model of adding a huge almost 100% premium on proof coins, it will very soon be unsustainable for a majority of collectors to justify purchasing proof gold coins, because as most of us here must know from experience, wages aren’t exactly rising at the same pace.
Even the smallest 1/4oz gold proof coins (smallest to appreciate a design)  will be hard to justify purchasing at almost £1000.

    Have we hit the ceiling?

we all want gold and silver to go to the moon, the knock on effect for commemorative coins will be painful, the “postponement” of the monarch series is likely to be the first of many.   It’s okay if they can use the same dies for 50ps for example as these can be used for the  BUNC base metal, silver and golds.   The monarch series is far more limited like others.

At a bullion sovereign being circa £440 a proof sovereign and the 1/4 proof coins will now be north of £800 per coin (unless the RM drastically cut their margin) which will never happen.

I loved collecting gold proof 50p’s but when they hit over £1000 it was a step too far for me…..Jesus how much is the next gold proof 50p gonna be at todays prices £1450-£1500?  Usually close to double the bullion price.

Look at the sales figures for recent years they have only sold the low hundreds sometimes sub 100 gold proof 50ps not just 50ps but other coins as well.

we we’re always going to have this problem and it’s here today folks collectors in their droves will be shaken out of the tree……
……it’s not all doom and gloom and there’s loads the RM can do but they are acting like rabbits in the headlights.

They can certainly change their mind.
This might be an oversimplification… but I think in order to release any coin, there must be a proclamation in the Gazette; but just because a Proclamation exists, doesn’t mean a coin has to be released.
Most recently, the 5oz Petition Crown was scrapped even though it was part of a Proclamation.

Lovely looking coin thanks to great photos. I don’t see the RM holographic security logo on it. Much prefer Brits without it in all honesty.
If you can confirm that my blurry eyes aren’t deceiving me this time of night and there is indeed no hologram on it then I’ll take it please.
Please PM me accordingly and I’ll get back to you in the daytime. I expect your bank details won’t have changed since my recent Lion of England purchase?

I've been chiming about that $2300 mark for a while. If you guys are encouraging me to be boring, the next race is between $2354/$2341 and $2247/$2111, these being the points that could trigger significant further momentum in either direction. A failure to break $2354/$2341 within the next 10 days/1 month could be a sign of the bull run running out of steam and likewise if price doesn't break below the pivot and resistance points gold might become "range bound" until the next move in either direction. If gold breaks $2247 it would be neutral/slightly bearish and if it breaks $2111 then it would be a bear market (unlikely at this time IMHO)
    XAUUSD - Gold Forex Trader's Cheat Sheet - Barchart.com
Breaking above key resistance levels like the 52-week high (setting continually new ATHs) or the pivot point 3rd level resistance could signal further upward momentum. If bearish sentiment dominates then breaking below significant support levels such as the 1-month low or the pivot point 3rd support point could indicate further downside potential
(look at the trader's cheat sheet to decipher what the above means)
Not financial advice but momentum tends to breed momentum and my read is we're more likely to continue the bull run than become range bound or enter a bear market at least between now and May. The summer might be a different picture with the CME trending towards being fractionally more hawkish on rate cuts than last week. I was saying in another thread that the central bank rate cuts, or lack thereof, might come as a surprise to some people, including me
I think the macro picture, while super strong for gold and silver over longer timeframes in western markets, is how some analysts have painted it - the west has lost control over precious metals, whose price is now being driven by the Asia-Pacific, particularly India and of course China. That's bullish for metals
TL:DR - number goes up more likely than number goes down, reassess in May/June
I'm a long term holder with zero gold sales so I'm ambivalent about the whole thing. If it goes down, great, cheaper purchases. If it goes up, great, I'm in psychological profit. I'd probably rather it go down or become range bound and I've been saying since before Xmas that I predicted this exact scenario - a rush to $2300. The next rush after this is $2800 which is a big jump. My fear was gold would rise in price faster than I could afford to stack it, and that's exactly what happened thus far. It's really bad for the ordinary person if gold does rocket to $2800 but great for those holding gold, obviously.

I should have added if/when the central banks cut the uncertainty and opportunity costs associated with gold will fade away and the big players will flood into the market. When that happens there's potential for some serious upward moves. Likewise if the central banks change their tune and say no rate cuts before 2025 (US and UK elections) and things quiet down with Israel, Iran, Ukraine, Russia, Taiwan, China, then gold might fizzle out. Betting on a brighter tomorrow used to be a thing but I ain't feeling so rosy. Doom and gloom for the world, boom and boom for the metal stackers.
