I like my 1989 sovereign set. Its a shame I have store them away because they are too valuable to have in the house. I don't know much about sovereigns, but I loved the design and they were reasonable priced. I don't plan on selling them though.

I thought that you were targeting the regular proof version the last time I read your thread. I guess it’s about what version you can source at the time?
Having said that, when it comes to coins I say one thing and sometimes end up doing the opposite. It’s easy to change my mind when I give it more thought.
A magnificent coin to start your 1oz collection. Well done with your decision.

Yes. You're right, I was actually looking for the 1oz regular proof and then these guys here turned my head by posting about the 'reverse frosted proof edition'. Then I had a big dilemma about which one to go for, I still prefer the legend on the coin in original proof , but the main thing I disliked about that coin was how the central garter and shield didn't stand out very well (which was fixed by the reverse proof - it looks incredible and the words in the garter stand out really well. "Honi soit qui mal y pense" Wow, a coin with a moral message. On the reverse proof I disliked the shiny proof Charlie at first but it has since grown on me. In the end it just came to fate, destiny, accident or sheer luck take your pick and I ended up with the rarer variant with 210 minted instead of 500. So I'm counting that as a win, and I'm more than happy with the coin I have.

Yes it's weird. I think it is an artefact of the focus stacking. Here's one of the 40 individual frames to prove it...

What a generous gesture, I really like the King Arthur, any chance of an adoption whilst @Fenlander1still has one for sale😀

There will always be buyers for 1oz coins. Just depends on the “climate” of the market. Exactly what @Fenlander1said don’t believe the hype.
I quite like the Myths and Legends series only downside was one specific design interpretation which was not the greatest imo.
They may not be as popular as QB series but “preowned” versions of these coins are now selling with a little extra premium and will only increase.
CGT all the way!

Hi Fenlander. I’m interested in the Robin Hood coin. It would be a gift for my adult son who is archery daft. Could you post better pics of that coin please? Thank you.

Over the last decade, gold has increased at 9% annually; although I obviously try and buy dips, sometimes you bite the bullet at higher price/s to complete a set/run/whatever.
With so many bigger global issues and those growing and compounding almost daily currently - I don't think this will alter Gold current course.
Best reason to reduce UK taxes I can think of given IMF track record.
Whatever you can relatively easily afford without stressing your other commitments,
and also if you require high liquidity, because your potentially in-out-in out of PM's instead of just holding for the longer term.
Totally agree, I love the sight of a tray of meatier 1oz coins, plus there's a buyer for everything in my experience, I do however flip Krugs/AGE's and similar due to CGT implications;
most of my 1/4 oz are either proofs when they were at bullion prices, or potentially premium noteworthy coins in the future.

Gold is supposed to be the hedge against the digital/paper financial markets and against inflation. If you own physical gold the daily/weekly spot price is irrelevant
Gold in USD traditionally returns inflation + 5% and depending what sources and time period you care to use, gold was up 13.5-14.5% in 2023, so there's your 10% a year
Gold has never dropped 30-40% and remained at that price to my knowledge. You can see there was a blip between 2011-2015 when gold did technically lose 25-30% (peak to trough) but that was off the back of a major bull run. The price then recovered that 25-30% in 2016 and continued its upwards climb ever since
It MIGHT be possible to pick time ranges from absolute peak to absolute trough where gold lost 30% but if you're holding gold for 10 years+ like you should be, I'm going to say it's impossible to lose 30%. Since we went off the global USD gold standard in 1971, gold is headed in one direction - UP. That was before they started printing money as a lifestyle choice. The value of gold is changing (going up) relative to the global population and living standards, but the majority of gold's price increase is due to $, £, € losing value. The more debt they create the higher gold (and silver) will go. If there's such a thing as a sure thing in financial markets, then gold going up over the long-term is that certainty
