$10,000 gold will probably happen but not because it has become that much more valuable, just that it will cost more money to buy it due to devaluation of the currency. This is the whole point in holding it - we'll be grateful for our 10k gold when it's 20 quid for a pint of milk  
The USD is about the only currency which hasn't been tumbling against gold but eventually it will catch up (or catch down) to the others, many of which have already reached & overtaken their 2011 gold highs

Of course there is enough physical to back it, just that the price would be astronomical and certain governments may not quite have as much physical as they'd like, which in event of a return to a gold standard and a massive revaluation, it would be needed to cushion the blow from their horrendous amounts of national debt coming home to roost. I'd assume countries with a high gold vs low debt ratio would do rather well in that instance, somebody like Russia perhaps. Probably why, if rumours are true about there being little gold in Fort Knox why the fed doesn't want to get audited..they simply don't have enough physical to cover their debts.

I think there will be a pullback too, fingers crossed gold should see at least either a long consolidation (again) or a pullback/buying opportunity. I am positioned already but also have some cash on the sidelines to be used in a pullback. If one does not materialise I will find value elsewhere. 
Edit - specifically I am looking mostly to add to gold mining positions and perhaps buy a sovereign or two. I have seen the gains made in gold miners compared to physical and wish to build that portion of my gold holdings going forwards now as oppose to the stack.

Didn't Carney say they have 250 billion of fiat funny money to throw at the problem if needed

When the day comes that gold is fully valued (Gold:Dow at least in low single digit, under 100oz for a standard house) of gold  then this week's price action won't even be distinguishable as a blip on the overall chart. 
Buying fiat currency with real money is the craziest thing that you can do right now.
Carney has pretty much just said that they're prepared to do "whatever is necessary to stabilize financial markets" ( = codeword for more fiat currency dilution). That's all they have in their locker, and they're about to wheel out the bazookas and heavy artillery.
