  1. Tito did get rid of the Kuna once he took control as it was demonetized in July 1945. These were printed in Germany at the time. They returned to the Kuna during the homeland war in 1991. I didn't manage to collect many recent notes as I wanted to spend them but next year after the bank no longer accepts them they should be easy and cheaper to pick up for a collection.
  2. I bought these with my remaining Kuna notes at Zagreb Airport the other day. Only modern Kuna notes I now have are a couple of ten Kuna notes which aren't worth much.
  3. Wow, those are from the early days!. My neighbour out there gave me some Kuna notes from WW2. I'll have to dig them out to see exactly which ones.
  4. The queue will be a distant memory. This means that I'll be able to drive from Croatia to Italy without any hassle.
  5. As of the 1st. January 2023, Croatians have only 15 days left to spend their Kuna's. The banks will accept them for exchange for Euros up until the 31st. December 2023. Also today Croatia enter the Schengen zone, which makes crossing similar borders easier. Over the years I've chucked into a pot the coins that I didn't put back into circulation as it's more hassle than it was worth because of the small denominations. As 1 Kuna was equivalent to 12 pence sterling, 100 Lipa was equivalent to 1 Kuna. I tried to get hold of 100 x 1 Lipa coins but only ever managed to get one of them in my change along with only 1 x 2 Lipe coin. These were quite rare to find in your change. Imagine having to count out 100 x 1 Lipa coins to buy a few sweets! The brass coloured 5 & 10 Lipa coins were quite commonly seen discarded in the streets. The range of coins were; 1 Lipa, 2 Lipe, 5 Lipa, 10 Lipa, 20 Lipa, 50 Lipa, 1 Kuna, 2 Kune, 5 Kuna. There's also a 25 Kuna coin but it was mainly released for commemorative reasons. It will be sad to see the Kuna currency go but the Euro will make it easier when popping over the borders.
  6. Bought the coin a couple of weeks ago and sourced a box and certificate to go along with it, which arrived today.
  7. It makes me wonder what they paid for it, probably less than spot price. This was from Cash & Cheque Express. It's the first time I've been in there as usually their bullion sovereigns are overpriced but this being a proof Butler stood out. I'll have a look on ebay for an original box and certificate for it now.
  8. I haggled them down to £675 in the end. It came in a Jubilee Mint presentation fdc, which I'm not too interested in. I did offer £650 but he then wanted to check price online so I stopped him in his tracks when I offered £675. The silver coin by the way was a freebie from my favourite bullion dealer in town.
  9. Pawn shop in Aylesbury has a 2016 butler effigy sovereign in window for £699, good price?
  10. I wonder what the horse was thinking when St. George's balls were rubbing up and down it's back? It might explain the expression on it's face.
  11. Diameter of 40mm. It must be a wafer
  12. Today this Charlie arrived. Can't really see it on this image but there's spots where the frosting isn't complete on his face.
  13. Would it be that they've destroyed the dies for them & are hoping for a return to fall into their hands before supplying you?
  14. It might even kill off the interest in collecting/stacking foreign coins in the end. Silver will have to go sky high in price for it to be worthwhile keeping all foreign coins. Another way of bleeding us dry.
  15. Well, this will be interesting to see how many people will be trying to offload their coins before the new rates cut in. Maybe even dealers will struggle to sell theirs.
  16. Would it be advisable to offload any non-UK coins sooner rather than hanging onto them?
  17. I've just rang the mint and was told the half sovereigns will be posted out on the 29th of this month.
  18. BBP quote the half sovereign maximum mintage at 6480. Does this mean that Royal Mint sell 3000 & other dealers sell the remainder? Ah, me being blind and stupid, just realised they're in the sets as well! https://www.bullionbypost.co.uk/proof-sets/proof-half-sovereigns/queen-elizabeth-ii-memorial-half-sovereign-2022-gold-proof-coin/
  19. I've ordered the half sovereign as the full is a bit too pricey for my pocket at the moment.
  20. More than likely you can haggle the price down.
  21. HSBC are crooks. My missus got stung years ago paying a speeding fine in Germany for me. Biggest crooks out there.
