I don’t have any poor quality sovereigns I bought 1 this week that had been cleaned and to be honest it had the best detail Iv ever seen in one and eitha way it’s still 22ct gold and still weighs the same if I was saying here’s £500 give me all your poor quality gold then I’d get that but my sovereigns are all decent I bought one this week as I bought 3 and thought F it why not but another at a cheap price so I appreciate your reply but please don’t think I’m buying poor gold 😂 I look at everything before buying and I have £500 spare each week for gold so I said I don’t care if it’s been cleaned when I go weigh my gold in to a jeweller (who I use) who will be melting it down he really won’t care if it’s cleaned or covered in dirt 👌

With respect spending £500 a week on poor quality sovereigns seems a terrible idea especially if that is the whole of your weekly savings budget. Yes gold has gone crazy in the past few months but it doesn't always do that. Poor quality sovereigns will be difficult to shift other than at rock bottom prices from dealers. Who would melt them down ? That comes at a cost. Another problem is fakes. Cheap looking coins can be cheap for a reason. I certainly wouldn't put all your eggs in one basket. Collectors spend years leaning the pitfalls.

Aldebaran reacted to dicker in Which gold
Stacking for weight I get.
If you are buying the cheapest Sovs at what Chards label “Grade C” - polished, from jewellery etc you may them harder to shift when you come to sell.
Personally I don’t buy poor quality Sovs* l and I think other folk are similar.
Best
Dicker
* Apart from half Sovs from M and S mints which are hard to find.

@Skyfiller this is a wonderful achievement, just think how you will feel, the remaining slots are filled in the holder and you can close the lid and start another. I am sure that you are giving yourself a real sense of security.
Well done you 🌞

Bit of bullion. Couple of '58s. One might look a bit '53'ish but it's due to the photo-buggering-engine supplied free with all iphones.

Little and often. Builds your core stack.
My "best value" gold bought in the good old +3% over spot from HGM has nicely doubled and a bit on top, also some lovely always reasonable purchases from @arshimo2012 here on the forum in the early days.
Good foundations always make for solid decisions
As i learn, I'm now " quality over quantity " pf70 coffins of big gold 5sov or 2oz gold
Hopefully 3-4 large perfect purchases a year will pay dividends in my twilight years in a few decades time
Some Perfect proofs are at bargain prices at the moment.
My last £5 five sov memorial sovereign pf70 for £3000
Less than RRP ! These are totally stunning
I'll add it with the others and worry about the current dip in a 25years time

Aldebaran reacted to Petra in Another in the Kilo Club
Just checked through my paperwork… after just under two and a half years I’m on around just over half a kilo (sounds better than 500g😮🤔)
Two lessons learnt:
Should have bought less silver🤔
Should have bought more slightly larger coins such as full and half sovereigns 🤔🤷🏼♂️
oh well …. best keep going🤔😮😁🔥

Yup. For some reason the cost really grates me but is a necessity. I just have to tell myself that without it, I wouldn’t be collecting and would’ve pissed it up the wall so the benefit outweighs the price.

Aldebaran reacted to Scootermuppet in Now Finished, thank you! - Bit of Auction fun for a damp Sunday! - 10oz Silver (999.9 Fine) Una & Lion Bar, with small marks
Hi All,
Having never done an Auction before, and needing to move some items on, I thought I'd give it a go... Please do let me know if there's anything wrong with the listing - as I say, not tried this before!
Item: 1 x 10oz Una & the Lion Royal Mint Stamped Bar - with some small marks (refer to pictures) - Please do not bid if you are expecting a Pristine example!
Start Time : Now (time of listing)
End Time : 7pm BST this evening (28th April 2024)
Starting price : £50
Minimum bid increments : £1 please, to keep it neat 😏
Postage : UK only - will be RMSD by 1pm, postage on top of final auction price.
Payment : By Bank Transfer or PPFF
Dispatch : Will do my best to post out tomorrow (Monday 29th April 2024), but may be Tuesday. Will include a Capsule for it too, if required by the auction winner.
Photos:
Front: slight haze marks on the 'scrolled' area near the top - only visible when holding at a certain angle though, really difficult to photograph...
Back : again, some slight haze marks top & Bottom in the 'scrolled' area, and equally as difficult to show on a picture I'm afraid
Close up of the mark on the Lions body in the corner, possibly milking...? 🤔 again, hard to photograph, and not disfiguring generally.
Edges: generally ok, the odd small dink / mark, but nothing horrendous in my opinion - However... Please do not bid if you are expecting a Pristine example!
I may be being over-picky, but wanted to describe as accurately as possible for the eventual owner 👍
Winner will be highest bid at 7:00pm BST this evening (28th April 2024) as determined by the post times - I reserve the right to make the final decision, as I know from watching other auctions if two people post at almost the same time, it can be difficult to determine which is the winner.
(Any Advice on this point gratefully received form the Auction Veterans out there 🙂)
Good luck, and Bid lots & Bid high 😁

Might take a month off as I really overspent this month to hit kg 😂 but will carry on.
for me it’s just a good way of saving as I am rubbish with money and if it’s in the bank it quickly gets spent on expensive toys and rubbish off Amazon.
No real plan on what I’m saving for! I’m lucky as mortgage all paid off so there as an emergency fund or just nice for retirement 🥳🎉
Really wish I was introduced to this way of saving 25 years ago.
