Hey, welcome. I'm no collector of proofs, but looking at the image, that ding above the 'E' is pretty significant. My only advice would be to remember that you're collecting coins, not certificates. I appreciate it's nice to have lower numberred COAs but there's always a chance the new one could have its own novelty value... running numbers (123) or repeating digits (222) etc. But even if not, I'm still iinclined to agree with what @GBStacking said above. I'd be prioritising the coin over the paper. Good luck with your collecting.

Bullion vs Proof vs Graded

Thanks for the advice. 👍 Everything about these shiny seductresses is addictive. Probably best I try and avoid the siren-call of numasmatics for a while longer! -
Bullion vs Proof vs Graded
FourNinesFine replied to FourNinesFine's topic in General Precious Metals
What a great article. Thanks for pointing me at that @MonkeysUncle. I think we'll all continue to interpret this guidance in our own ways: "...a small allocation of British gold Sovereigns can be a useful diversification in an investment portfolio." Also, I've never bought precious metals from there, but I'm pretty sure I used to drink in the Knuckle Dragger Central. Cheers. -

Oh, I see. Just thought it was a rare one. Yes, a little project for you maybe... to unearth something else just as special. -
With the exception of two very specific items, my stack consists entirely of bullion. The gold is a nod toward retirement and having an additional buffer to draw on should I want / need to; the silver, so I have a big pile of shiny things to hand over to the kids. I subscribe wholeheartedly to the 'gold as a hedge against inflation' / wealth storage vehicle. I'm not in it expecting it to go to the moon. But seeing all these beautiful Proof coins and the passion with which many forum members speak of them - as is rampant now in expectation of the Coronation coins... i wonder, should I be widening my horizons? Or, are the proofs only for the collectors and not the stackers? By which i mean, the "buy what you like / enjoy" crowd... and not for someone like me who is not looking to gamble? Put simply, is a £850 proof sovereign just as likely to hold its value as the same £400 bullion sovereign? Or is it more subjective than that with the more numismaticy (it's a word!) side of things? And as far as grading goes... again, is any additonal premium paid on the way in, usually realised on the way out? I'm not throwing shade on anyone else's preferences, just looking to better understand whether sticking with bullion means I'm plotting a sensible course, given my goals... or if I'm being needlessly conservative and restricting myself from an otherwise much broader stacking landscape. Thoughts welcome. Assuming any of that made sense. FNF.

I'd imagine if there's one to be found for you... this may just be the place. Good luck. I'll keep my eyes peeled. -

Welcome to the forum.

Well, not to derail your original thread, but I'd love to see those planet earth spheres if you have pics. They sound great.

Completed. Sales post added in order to give trading feedback. Thanks. FNF.

Now, if I'd known about these yesterday... 😆 Not like we can combine postage now is it! And I'm not sure the money tree is up to another shaking this month. 😂

Charles no longer “Defender of the Faith” in Canada
FourNinesFine replied to westminstrel's topic in General Precious Metals
I think the bigger question here is... why is Stefan Dennis - a.k.a. Paul Robinson from Neighbours - in charge of the Hallmarking process? -
Thanks to @ST1986 and @Sh97if for some of today's additions to my stack. The 2012 continues my one-man vendetta against the Pistrucci sovereign (which will get me banned from the forum at some point I'm sure). And the 10oz bars have helped me realise a life-long dream of owning PMs that look like it does in the movies!

Official Coronation Coin Range Reveal
FourNinesFine replied to westminstrel's topic in General Precious Metals
Hard disagree. When you consider that the Ensigns Armorial celebrates England, Ireland & Scotland and the 'standard' Sovereign design depicts 'England's' Patron Saint literally slaying the national emblem of Cymru... I think we all need to ask ourselves, when will this anti-Welsh rhetoric on our coinage end? Frankly, I won't be satisfied until there's a special edition soveriegn that depicts Owain Glyndwr passing to Shakin' Stevens to score a try at Twickenham, while Tom Jones and Richard Burton sing Delilah in the royal box. I think all right-minded people will agree that this is only sensible way forward. -
If this is part of a cycle, I'm going to wait for the Wakanda Panther. Especially while they're still manipulating the Vibranium price. Joking apart, I love stuff like this being shown off. The sheer variety of what's out there is mind-boggling!

How is it, in the flesh so to speak? First impressions... For no real reason I can put my finger on, I just haven't got round to pulling the trigger on one of these yet.

New Member starting stacking in 2023
FourNinesFine replied to Adam2023's topic in Welcome new members
Hey, welcome to the forum. Just wanted to add a couple of comments to the advice already given. This forum genuinely has the best prices. In addition to that, there are the pinned 'See a deal, post it here...' threads for all the precious metals that will help you identify some of the best dealer-led deals. As somone mentioned above, there really is strength in the forum. I was nervous about buying / selling here at first - it's only human nature. But everyone has a feedback score & rating and you can also look at what people have said about specific transactions. So, trading on here with a member with a solid feeedback score is about as safe as it gets IMO. We all have the same concerns, they're not taken lightly, and everyone wants to look out for other forum members. Obviously, that could make it difficult for new members, or those that don't trade as much as others. They could have a smaller feedback sample / transaction history, but wouldn't make them any more 'untrustworthy'. In these instances, it hasn't been uncommon for a thrid-party (well established, trusted forum member) to act as a go-between. I know @BackyardBullion has offered this service previously. It adds a small amount to the overall cost, but you're paying for confidence and assurance. Again, I stress though, that in my 12 months on the forum, and with £1000s spent in deals, I've never had anything but satisfactory outcomes. The best advice is just to keep asking questions and seeking advice. Nobody will hold that against you. We're all here for the same reasons. Think of the forum as a community that has a marketplace. Mos Eisley is ain't! Good luck with your stacking. -
