  1. I buy a fair bit from Nigel, he is very well known in the community and sells on the Facebook groups and runs an auction page that is very popular, terrible that this has happened He is in the process of moving to the shop next door so the physical damage should cause minimal disruption, but the hassle and the loss is going to be a pain
  2. Not sure where you have seen that but I dont think this is likely, and if you are putting it away for over a decade I don't see it matters too much, I think your plan to buy over time is sound and will let you cost average, so a tumbling price would not really have an major impact anyway. Don't listen to me though, I am a gold-bug
  3. Hi Adam, isn't this overweight and the wrong thickness? I thought double eagles were 33.43g and 2mm thick? The diameter is also wrong (should be 34mm) but the callipers are not touching the coin
  4. I was the same when I had my first large 0, I have two now I have a third as well which I think is the 'normal' variety I have seen a few of the large 0 sell as Marsh 43B though, so others may have differing opinions. And to be honest I would prefer to be wrong given I have two of them
  5. This is not a Marsh 43B, this is a large 0 variety which is not mentioned in Marsh but is as common as the 'normal' 1860 The 43B is not a large character, but it is an O and not an 0
  6. Proof 2024 sovereigns at £675, £50 saving on RM price https://britanniacoincompany.com/buy-coins/gold-coins/2024-proof-sovereign/
  7. @Mtaybar @margin have both sold me airtite capsules and/or tubes. The H16 are not ideal and I would suggest getting A16 ringed instead. I have some spare T22's if you get stuck but you are likely best to try and get all of them from one of the two guys already mentioned, let me know though as you can always just pick them up - save on postage
  8. Reduced to £775 each, which is exactly a 5% premium on highly collectable RM proof coins (spot currently £1620)
  9. Proof 50p's I think are a decent choice but not direct from Royal Mint, I have a few of them I have picked up on the secondary market for under 10% premium. There is a market for them and they do well on eBay but not so well on here, I have two Paddington 50p's up at the moment and have had no interest in them at all, though if I stuck them on eBay I know they would sell but it has been weeks since I had a offer code for selling fee's They would likely sell on the Facebook groups pretty well too, but I have not got them in hand to do dated pictures and they are quite strict on having named and dated pictures on the Facebook groups Double sovereigns I love, so tactile. The Maklouf above is one of my favourite coins. And you can often get the bullion ones for a lower premium than sovereigns, I had a couple of the Platinum Jubilee doubles from Chards when they had them at super low premiums. They do not seem to have come up much recently, getting a crowned Charlie is on my list for this year as I have the two 2022's so would like to complete the trilogy. Another Maklouf would be nice too but the premiums at the moment on anything Maklouf are eye watering
  10. Double sovereigns and Gold £2 coins are not the same in my opinion, A true double sovereign will have the G&D design, like this one: The gold £2 coins will be based on circulating £2 coins. While sovereigns were a circulating coin calling the doubles £2 may have been accurate, but not anymore
  11. Great price, 1997 a sought after year for both coins, Book price on the half is £350 and on the 1/4oz it is £500, a bargain for someone GLWS
  12. I keep a portion of my stack as graded for diversity. Moderns I prefer top-pop and buy pre-graded, though I have some PF69's I have picked up for raw price, or even less on a couple of occasions Older stuff I am less worried about grade, for example I would buy a rare Victoria in a low AU grade. I have found the prices for graded top-pop special reverse are fairly static but are as low compared to bullion at the moment as they have been for a while so a good time to buy those. Older graded stuff is doing very very well at the moment, as are high grade Gillicks and Canada sovereigns, especially Edwards. I would like to pick up some more Maklouf graded coins but they are also fetching a very good premium and those I have bid on have gone for more than I would be willing to pay. Grading yourself is a lottery, while new coins should be always getting 70's with RM's QC that is not a given and the price differential on a 69 to a 70 means you will likely not get your money back if you achieve a 69. Older coins though, it will depend entirely on the coin. I have a couple of coins away for grading I only expect to get AU grades, but one is a mint error coin and the other a very rare date so I decided they were worth the cost as I will be looking to consign them both. I also have maybe a dozen high grade shield sovereigns I will likely grade at some point, but until I want to sell them I will keep them raw as I enjoy them better that way. When I decide to liquidate though grading them will mean I get much better returns.
  13. Bump, £450 posted if taken before end of Monday, will be going into storage Tuesday and I will try to sell a bit of bullion instead
  14. Full set sold pending payment but still have the spare Charity and Patronage available for £500 +post Again boxed with COA etc.)
  15. They are yours mate, have to say was hoping these would be the last to go not the first
  16. I have bought from new members. most I have paid on receipt but a couple of times I have taken the chance, both times the member had purchased a paid membership and had been vouched for by an established member I trusted I have also bought from someone with very low feedback and paid up front as they had been a paid member on here a long time and were active but had just never sold
  17. Apologies just realised I put this coin in the wrong box for the picture (coins are stored in the safe, boxes in a cupboard) This is the correct box
