I am very grateful to everyone who contributed to this compensation.
I did ask BYB to pass on my thanks to everyone involved, as I am unaware of who contributed.
I was not entirely happy with others paying for my misfortune, but my wife saw things differently. So, as a compromise, I made contributions to 3 charities suggested by BYB.
The community spirit on this forum has blown me away, and as I suggested to BYB, if this should occur again please consider me all in to help others in the same manner.

Atkinson's paying the same price for Kooks as Brits. There are some coins they pay premiums for. You might get a quid or two more on here than at the dealers once you've established a reputation 👍🏼

The price goes up every time I'm ready to buy some and then I can't bring myself to do it because it was significantly cheaper last week and will probably be again once I do pull the trigger. So I end up getting fat with puff-pastry mince pies instead.

From what I read, it's the result of a weaker dollar against a basket of currencies (the DXY). Therefore your average dollar buys you that much less gold.
 

Yes, prices were cheap. 
I bought from this forum member in September, one of my first purchases on here. 
Bought 10 of the same coins, when the package arrived there was 5 of one type and 5 of another. I think it was a genuine mistake and I was refunded £2 each for the ones I didn't order. Making it, at the time £22 each for a new 2023 Britannia. 
I thought it was pretty fair they decided to refund me that amount for each of the wrong coin. I know mistakes happen, I've sent wrong coins in the past and offered refunds. I think this is the way it should be though, if mistakes are made. Sometimes you just need to hold your hands up.
Like you said, I'm not sure how other sellers (trying to profit from sales) are competing with that price though.

I think you're safe buying small volumes from him where he has sales posts. This was generally the case with PSL and Prodigy as well. Fine for stuff that is in stock and ready. Most of the issues came when they started doing larger special orders and taking payment up front. 
It is a great shame as they could have been a force for good in the UK silver stacking community if they did things in a correct way. They must be taking small margins, but they have found a way to bring in silver at a very good price (certainly I for one have all but stopped selling silver ounces as I can't compete with their rates). This is great for stackers looking for bargains. Very challenging for the competition though.
I believe the reason for their great rates is they are using the special margin scheme by importing "second hand" silver from vat free countries (Singapore, USA), paying import VAT, then reclaiming the VAT from HMRC as second hand. only paying on the margin. This is what Prodigy once explained to me. I haven't tried it myself, but if you can deal with the hassle and the cash flow it is a good opportunity, IF LEGAL (jury is out on that).

Umm . . . so what's the skinny on Bearest78? He was always a bit terse - actually he was as communicative as a wooly mamoth in a huff- but the shiny was good and so were his prices. Was he suspected of possibly going rougue?

I had to move my dealings to another bank, as VirginMoney started to refuse anything to do with gold purchasing, even from legitimate dealers like Tavex.
And now Lloyds is refusing a refund.
 
I'm really starting to detest banks.

Name and shame the bank
Put in a Formal Complaint for not treating you fairly
If they still refuse take it to the FOS
