Info on this 1887 £5 Sovereign

Hello

Can anyone see anything wrong with this particular 1887.  I know that this is one of the most faked coin.

If it is genuine, someone has it up for sale at spot.

Genuine or fake

I am very, very new to all this, but should there be that crack in his sword? And shouldn't there be more detail on his torso, as there is so little wear?

Very interested to hear what the experts say.

The sword definitely looks like there should be more details like a line down from the handle to tip

I think I will send the seller an email telling them that I think that their coin is a fake with some photos showing where the problems are

For some reason the front is very crisp but the reverse looks worn.  I do not like the top of the "1" in the date.  I would avoid it.

The one does look like Karl Malden's nose

£5 Sovereign from Britannia Coin Company site. Even their coin, the sword looks wrong.   Step forward @LawrenceChard and have your say.

Since when was George armed with a saw?

Do you believe that it is gold or, if it is a fake, one made from gold? 🌞

They're usually mostly made from gold, sometimes more gold than a geniune.

I like to buy the pre-dip dip

I would say it is gold, but only a XRF scanner would know what percentage it is.

Even the Royal Mint has one listed for sale at £3500 with a sword with little details like this fake we are commenting on.  These coins are best avoided.

Obviously a coin you need to see in hand, know what you’re doing and if possible some good old provenance 🤔🤔

Some update.

Emailed the dealer and they have now taking down the listing.  They will get the coin XRF tested and more likely sell for scrap gold.
