What was the first PM coin or bar you bought?

Recommended Posts

My first PM coin i bought was a 2012 full gold sovereign. I bought it because after metal detecting for over 10 years i'd never found a gold coin. I'd found all sorts of things...but never a gold coin, so in 2012 i gave in searching for one and bought one :)

The first PM (Pert Mint) coin I bought was a kookaburra :)

When prices of silver dropped sometime in 2013 I decided to buy some silver, initially I was planning on buying bars and just a couple of coins for a collection. I bought a 2013 panda and a Mapple, an ASE, a koala and a kook as well as I think a maple wildlife series an a britiania. And a couple of bars.

I then realised that coins, although higher premium would probably be a better investment. And now I only really buy coins, especially semi numismatic ones.

Gold sovereign in 1976 when I left school :) followed by a few more , then a few decades lay off, just started seriously collecting 2-3years ago.

The problem with common sense is, its not that common.

A 1oz gold 2005 krugerrand.  Being a South African I felt obliged to make my first purchase a PM coin from my home country.

Since I now live in Australia, most of my subsequent purchases have been Perth Mint items.

Hello Silver People

My very first was a 1oz Krugerrand which I gave to the wife!!!!, Now I know its not silver obviously but then I started silver.

My first silver coins were either a American Eagle 2012, or a Mexican Libertad 2012. That was in May of 2010.

Cheers

Keith

Well apart from various bits of sterling silver scrap and some industrial platinum scrap first PM coin I purchased was a 1907 Gold Sovereign.

Since then bits of allsorts really, if its platinum, silver or gold makes no difference so long as the premium is low regardless of whether is jewellery, scrap, coins or bullion.

I originally thought my first coin was a 1oz gold panda.  I checked today and it is actually a Perth Mint 2004 Lunar Money.

My first silver coin is a 1kg Perth Mint 2005 Lunar Rooster (I wasn't sure of the Mint until I checked today).

Both were bought in the years they were minted.  It has been 9 years but after purchasing some coins as presents this week, I've decided I want some for myself.

I wonder if these are worth any more than current dates?

What a belter I love the 1kg rooster.it is definitely worth more than the current series 2 lunars as it can't be re minted. Thanks for posting, don't put any more 1 kg coins up or i'll have to start collecting them :D

Well the kilo rooster is the first kilo of the series, with a mid-range mintage of 3818.

Danny, Perth mint did a full run of 12 of the series 1 1kilo coins, the first being the rabbit in 1999
