Royal Mail only go up to £2500 insurance without the option to purchase more cover.

Any suggestions for sending >£2500 of gold in the post?

Hope someone that specifically knows can chime in ( remember someone recently saying they used a company/courier that offered extra insurance)

If its one piece, obviously you would need the above, but if a few pieces then split into multiple packages.

Looking at their T&C's

Article 4 - Items covered by the Parcel Insurance

4.1. Secursus insures all new and used goods, except those listed in the exclusion list (4.3).

4.2. Here are some examples of Items covered by the Parcel Insurance:

• jewelries, pearls and precious stones, watches;
• goldsmithing, collector coins;
• leather goods;
• works of art or collectible Items, collector's stamps;
• handicrafts;
• high-tech Items;
• clothings, shoes, fashion accessories;
• sporting goods (including Bicycles);
• books, magazines, posters;
• medicines that do not require controlled temperature;

They do not cover what they call "PURE PRECIOUS METALS" so might be worth sending an email to them and confirming.

I have never used them before but I think some other forum members might have.

Another option if possible would be to split things into multiple packages.

Always been a problem and extra insurance has never been cost effective.

Welcome but I'm now assuming you're selling to a dealer? Might get a better rate on here imho.

If it is multiple items then potentially multiple packages? Obviously not ideal cutting up kg bars though. 

Although it adds to your disposal costs sending batches could quicker/cheaper/easier than driving there in person if you're not close

I happen to know that BBP send parcels of much higher than £2.5K using Royal Mail Special Delivery. Maybe they have a seperate insurance policy that covers loss?

Break down into smaller parcels if individual pieces are worth under the limit is one method. Or have a check with the big couriers like UPS and DHL. They offer insurance, but it obviously costs!
